Student will locate and review three (3) peer-reviewed research articles on one (1) topic of their personal or professional interest. Next, student will identify an array of reseach concepts within the articles and write a critique of the three articles in a paper that compares and contrasts research elements from each article. Student will summarize, evaluate, and respond to three (3) articles selected using the
following criteria:
• Accessible through any of the Porter Henderson Library’s online databases
• Published as a peer-reviewed article (i.e., not a book review, issue introduction, or editorial) in an
academic journal (i.e., not a newspaper, magazine, or professional periodical)
• Focuses on a social work, sociological, psychological, or medical problem or topic found in
professional social work practice
• Published within the past five (5) years.
Instructions
Students will select three articles on a similar topic of their personal or professional interest. After
reading each article, students will critique the articles as a collection, comparing and contrasting how
they feel the authors executed and presented a variety of research elements outlined below.
In addition to assessing elements judged to be inadequately addressed or missing, students should also
assess elements they judge to be adequately addressed or well done. The following outline should be
used as a guide and students should also use their academic expertise to determine if additional items
should be included in their overall critique.

• Was the research qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods?
• Was the methodology rigorous and sound (e.g., internal validity, external
validity, reliability of measurements, criteria used for sample selection)?
• Was the description sufficient to demonstrate replicability and falsifiability?
• Was the data analysis appropriately chosen based on the
purpose/claims/hypotheses?
Do the conclusion and discussion of the article match the purpose of the article and the
findings of the data analysis?
• What were the results of data analysis and were they understandable?
• Were authors’ assumptions founded by the results of the analyses?
• Were the strengths and limitations adequately identified and discussed?
• Were conclusions logically reached?
• Were counterarguments acknowledged/weaknesses identified?
Conclusion and Summary

This graded assignment requires you to again imagine yourself in the role of director of a center-based child care facility. Your submitted assignment will reflect your responses to this hypothetical situation and won’t reflect any real-world early childhood setting at which you may currently work or observe.
One of the many responsibilities you would face as the center’s director is to promote your child care facility to prospective parents and new families. In this assignment, you’ll explain your fictional center’s approach to ensuring and maintaining the health, safety, and nutrition of all children enrolled. In an early part of your essay, you’ll share information about the center’s indoor and outdoor environments and the many ways in which they’re kept sanitary, safe, and secure. In a later portion of your essay, you’ll explain four detailed lessons included in your curriculum that effectively teach children about health, safety, and nutrition. Finally, you’ll explain a planned modification to one of these four lessons to accommodate a child enrolled with a hypothetical special need or disability. Research Question: How has the BLM movement transformed the way the modern world views collective rights?

Explanation of RQ in own words – written in formal language: This research question will seek to uncover how society has adapted to and transformed civil movements and gained rights specifically through the analysis of prejudice throughout history.

Argument 1 Title: An Evaluation of African-American History Reveals Disproportionate Power Relations
Explanation: BLM movement is inspired from the evaluation of history demonstrating the role of power among institutions in comparison to the African-American population. This argument will assist in answering the RQ by demonstrating how the Black Community in America is often disadvantaged in formal power settings.

Argument 2 Title: The Black Population in America is Disadvantaged in Opportunities Thus Revealing a Hierarchy Between Classes.
Explanation: Many communities in America do not have the same opportunities as other racial groups causing the rest of society to view Black Americans as secondary citizens. This argument will further the RQ by discussing how BLM seeks to gain equal rights to others in society.

Argument 3 Title: BLM Has Disrupted the Previous Notion of a Progressive Society By Being Able to Expose Inequality
Explanation: This argument will highlight the RQ as it re-evaluates the notion of liberties in America. BLM exposes many inequalities African-Americans face on a daily basis by differentiating between “All Lives Matter” and “Black Lives Matter”.
