The history of the counseling profession is filled with stories of the people and events that helped shape it and make it what it is today. The field has been influenced by multiple historical events, societal needs, and social contexts. The counseling profession continues to evolve through unique approaches and philosophies from the counseling field and from contributions of the American Counseling Association (ACA), American Mental Health Counselors Association (AMHCA), and the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC).
For this Assignment, you will examine historical contributions to the identity of the mental health counseling profession, you will discuss how this field differs from other helping fields, and you will analyze a future direction in the field and how it might affect you in your professional role.
To Prepare:
Review Chapter 1 of the Erford course text in this week’s Learning Resources, and select one historical figure (a person) to discuss in your paper.
From Chapter 1, select one future direction (from the section “Where We Are Going,” beginning on p. 22) to discuss.
Review the webpage “Keyword Searching: Finding Articles on Your Topic: Searching Basics,” located in this week’s Learning Resources related to how to search the Walden Library databases.
Search the Walden databases for at least one scholarly article pertaining to the historical figure and/or to the future direction you chose.
Use the Research Paper Template in this week’s Learning Resources to complete this Assignment. Refer to your American Psychological Association (APA) manual to assist you in the proper use of APA throughout your paper.

Blog Assignment: Jobs/Roles in the ECE Community: Internationally
Blog Assignment: Jobs/Roles in the ECE Community: Internationally
Throughout this course, the Blog Assignments have taken you to local, state, and national early childhood organizations, agencies, and communities of practice. These explorations have been designed to help you imagine yourself in a variety of jobs that foster the well-being of children, families, and the early childhood field. This week, you will explore the international community of early childhood. Use this opportunity to inspire your thinking not only about places you might like to work, but also roles you might like to take on anywhere in the world, now and in the future. Again, be sure to take time to read the missions of each organization, agency, and community of practice, immerse yourself in the work that they do, and look for employment opportunities that are currently available and/or the kinds of skills and experience workers in each need to have to be viable contributors.
Here are just a few examples of international organizations that work for positive social change for children and families:

the cautionary tale
WRITE YOUR OWN CAUTIONARY TALE
Most everyone is familiar with fairy tales such as “Little Red Riding Hood” and urban legends such as “The Hook”. Your assignment is create one of your own and write a modern-day fairy tale or urban legend in a 3-page essay. Be clear and creative, but your ability to be concise is just as important. Have fun, but be sure to make the details of your story sound so realist and authentic that people will believe that it actually happened.
Before you complete your story; however, you must organize it. You need to put together an outline.
THE ESSENTIALS
1. Your story must have a title that grabs our attention. Be clear, concise, and creative.
2. Your story must also have an identifiable morale/message/theme. This is your cautionary tale equation: If X does Y, then Z.
3. Your story must revolve around an interesting character (or characters) who wants something badly (goal) and is facing obstacles (conflict). This is your story equation: S = (C + W) x O.
4. Your story must have memorable, interesting characters. They should have first and last names, ages, appearance, as well as strengths and weaknesses. Your main characters will need flaws in order for them to decide to make the wrong actions.
5. Your story must take place in a new unique world. The story should be a simple one, but that doesn’t mean it is forgettable. Romeo and Juliet has been told a million different ways. It’s the same simple story: boy meets girl, girl’s parents don’t approve, boy and girl make it work… or not. But each writer creates a different set of characters, locations, times and places, situations, and conflicts to make it his or her own.
6. Your story must have a plot with a clear beginning, middle, and end (but it doesn’t have to be a happy ending). This is the order of events. be sure to start your story late and get out early. The most common mistake is to start before the action takes place. You will only have three pages to write this, so do not waste words by starting too early. Likewise, do not linger too long. Lastly, make sure that you have all the essential components of the story in the body portion. Missing a major plot point will hurt the narrative.
7. Your story should employ symbolism to magnify your message. Consider using colors, times of day, seasons, objects, and nature to enhance the narrative.
OUTLINE ASSIGNMENT
1. Title – Be clear, concise, and creative
2. Morale/Message/Theme – Why is this a cautionary tale? What are you warning? This is your XYZ equation.
3. Story Equation – This is the foundation of plot. The want propels the story forward. This is your (C + W) x O equation.
4. Short Character Bios – This is for you, so that you understand your main characters (protagonists and antagonists) a little bit better. The best characters have depth; do not fall victim to character stereotypes.
5. World of the Story – Illustrate how the world of your story is unique, different, new, or memorable. It’s okay to write Little Red Riding Hood again, but it must be masked with a new character in a new world. Imagine Little Red is a troubled teen running away, which happens to be a mining colony on a moon in a far off galaxy and she steals her father space scooter to see her ailing grandmother. It is the same story, but the details are incredibly different.
6. Plot – Short description of what happens in the beginning, middle, and end (A, B, C, D, etc. sequence). Note: incorporating flashbacks as a narrative technique is optional.
7. Symbolism – Illustrate in detail how you will incorporate symbolism into the story?
Manage an HR Budget that Aligns with Organizational Strategy
Imagine you are the Director of Human Resources for a high-tech organization in the North East. You were just approached by the production and sales manager about a large contract that was just won. This contract entails that the organization will need to produce 50,000 of your organization’s patented specialized computer motherboards over a 2-year period for 20 million dollars. Part of the contract states that 2 million will be paid up front as an installment, but the remaining will be paid in quarterly installments as the organization meets deadlines each quarter. Both the production and sales manager mention to you that they are severely understaffed to meet this need and will need to meet this staffing need within the next 3-6 months. You realize the HR teams are understaffed to support the production and sales managers. The production and sales managers work with leadership to agree to provide you with 1 million dollars to help bolster up these teams so you can appropriately support them.
Prepare a proposal to communicate your plans with senior leadership. Be sure to explain the following in your plans to meet these deadlines by supporting the production and sales teams:
Explain the costs that would be associated with this scenario from an HR standpoint.
Determine how you would prioritize your budget dollars. Justify your plan with examples.
Critique the role of performance measurement in formulating the compensation plans for new hires brought in to complete this contract.
Document your plan to balance internal and external pressures to complete this contract.
Discussion 3: Bureaucracy and Pedagogy
I am listing the exact instructions from my professor in order to successfully answer the discussion questions. Please see the website link attached to imbed in while answering the questions.
http://www.ascd.org/publications/educational-leadership/sept13/vol71/num01/Grit-Plus-Talent-Equals-Student-Success.aspx
Discussion post: please read CAREFULLY and answer all questions very throughouly. Please relate the discussion to either Conflict Theory, Functionalism Theory, or Symbolic Theory.
Read the prompt carefully and
submit a response. Utilize sociological terms and concepts discussed in
the readings to add descriptive clarity to your statements.
Using the sociological imagination delve into your own memory of
school experiences. The main objective here is to recognize that at
times the idealized formal expectations and constraints (e.g., rules) of
a bureaucracy, ascribed to both student and teacher roles can interfere
with successful integration of students into the school community.
Try to recollect the truly positive roles and personalities that
you may have encountered in your experiences. Search your memory for
examples of both students and teachers/faculty that you might have
observed whose personalities provided positive direction and/or results
in achievement despite bureaucratic constraints (e.g., constraints tend
to stifle creativity among teachers and lead to_______?). What grounded
strategies or informal role/qualities, describe at least 1 or 2, did
these individuals use to impress on students positively, even the hard
to reach ones. How could the formal environment and organization (e.g.,
student population) of the school integrate them to improve success
rates, discourage dropouts, and reduce teacher burnout?
Include in your considerations how cultural preferences–as discussed by Bourdieu (e.g., cultural capital) are encouraged and rewarded in an ‘objective’ school environment? Consider the concept of “grit” (http://www.ascd.org/publications/educational-leadership/sept13/vol71/num01/Grit-Plus-Talent-Equals-Student-Success.aspx
search on line) and is that a fair expectation despite class and
cultural capital differences that home backgrounds provide students?
Alternatively, also consider whether, in your opinion, there exist
‘subjective’ reproductionists’
aspects to a schools climate and objectives in terms of how conflict
theorists describe? Were all students encouraged or rewarded equally or
were there intersectional aspects to the selection processes in school achievement and success?
Environmental and Traumatic Social Problems and Helping
This discussion post is due tonight July 20,2021 by 11:59pm EST
Minimum 150 words
Environmental and Traumatic Social Problems and Helping
Begin your discussion with a brief overview of the disaster or trauma described in your assigned article.
Analyze the professional response to either a natural disaster or a mass trauma by naming and discussing the techniques or programs used by professionals to give help in the situation described in your assigned article.
Where and how was the program implemented?
Per Maslow, refer back to Chapter 8’s Hierarchical Needs section in the Woodside and McClam text, can address client problems in the case you analyzed.
How were the most critical needs met?
Looking at the assigned case from a strengths perspective, how did the program or technique focus on strengths?
Could more of a strengths perspective have been used to help the individuals and community?
This discussion aligns with Learning Outcome 4.
For this discussion, you will learn more about the helping process, and the helper’s role in crisis intervention. You may want to refer back to Chapter 7’s section regarding Crisis Intervention and Chapter 8’s section regarding International Focus.
You will read about and discuss helping in the aftermath of a natural disaster or a mass trauma. Natural disasters may include hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, earthquakes, and forest fires. Mass traumas may include terrorist attacks, school shootings, or wars. Both types of events take place in the environment but require professional, individual, and community responses.
The helping relationship in such situations is qualitatively different than in conventional counseling situations because client needs are different. Traditional counseling typically takes place in a clinic or counselor’s office and focuses on the diagnosis and a treatment plan, using psychotherapeutic techniques to improve the individual’s ability to function and adapt. In contrast, disaster mental health responses take place in the community or client’s home, focus on solving immediate problems of survival, confirm the client’s emotional response, and make use of psychoeducational techniques to improve individual and community functioning.
