Animal Diversity

While we can quickly identify dogs, lizards, fish, spiders, and worms as animals, other animals, such as corals and sponges, might be easily mistaken as plants or some other form of life. One thing to keep in mind: even though members of the animal kingdom are incredibly diverse, animals share common features that distinguish them from organisms in other kingdoms. For example, all animals are eukaryotic, multicellular organisms, and almost all animals have specialized tissues. Most animals are motile, at least during certain life stages. Animals require a source of food to grow and develop. All animals are heterotrophic. So, you see, in many ways, they are very different, yet very much the same.
For this assignment, you have been asked to teach a class about the diversity of animals! Using the visuals found by you, include details demonstrating your knowledge about similarities and differences within the animal kingdom. Be sure to add audio to each slide to explain the illustration. As you create this lesson, keep in mind to simplify the concepts so it could easily be understood, even by a teenager.
For this assignment, be sure to complete the following:
• List the features that distinguish the animal kingdom from other kingdoms
• Describe the hierarchy of basic animal classification
• Highlight the diversity of the animal kingdom by comparing two different animals from the same species

What does it mean to own a stock? You may know that a stock is an investment and that it can go up or down, but there is more to owning a stock than that. When you own a stock, you own a fraction of the company. If it is just one stock, then it is likely an incredibly small fraction, but institutional investors and even some individuals may accumulate enough stock in a company to own a significant portion of the company. It is important for you, as a shareholder of the company, to understand that you may be entitled to certain privileges, such as voting rights or dividends. Additionally, there are different types of stocks (e.g., common and preferred), and you should understand the difference between them before making an investment decision in a company.

For this Assignment, you will explain the differences between common stock and preferred stock, as well as explain other aspects of common stocks, such as potential total return and valuation. You will describe how dividends affect stocks and their total returns.

To prepare for this Assignment, submit your responses to the following prompts:
– What are a few differences between common stock and preferred stock? (75–150 words, or 1–2 paragraphs)
– What makes up the potential total return of a common stock that you purchase? (75–150 words, or 1–2 paragraphs)
– Why are stocks generally more difficult to value than bonds? (75–150 words, or 1–2 paragraphs)
– Why might a company choose to not pay dividends? (75–150 words, or 1–2 paragraphs)
– Under what 2 assumptions can you use the dividend growth model to determine the value of a share of stock? (150–225 words, or 2–3 paragraphs)
– Based on the dividend growth model, what are the two components of the total return on a share of common stock? Which do you think is typically larger? (75–150 words, or 1–2 paragraphs)

NOTE: For each prompt, be sure to reference at least one scholarly source to support your answer. Use the Walden Undergraduate Paper Template, provided in this week’s Learning Resources, to complete this Assignment.

Discussion: Valuing a Stock

After developing a fundamental understating of stocks (i.e., what they represent, how they are obtained, etc.), a prudent investor could focus on improving his or her ability to determine the value of stocks. Investing in stocks while they are undervalued can lead to impressive returns, but buying overvalued stocks can lead to painful losses. The process of valuing stocks can be difficult and is sometimes as much of an art as it is a mathematical exercise—especially when attempting to predict future cash flows for young, growing companies. In this Discussion, you will determine the value of a stock and describe how you did so with your colleagues, as well as provide a recommendation of whether or not you would recommend buying the stock.

Note: Any stock recommendations that you or your colleagues provide in this Discussion are for educational purposes only. Professionals who provide financial and investment advice are licensed and regulated, and you should assume that your colleagues are not professional financial advisors. Unless you have expertise and experience in this area, you are strongly advised not to act on any information from this Discussion to make real investment decisions.

To prepare for this Discussion:

Locate a common stock to use for this Discussion. (Note: You can search for a stock on Google Finance or Yahoo Finance.)
Refer to this week’s Learning Resources on Stock Valuation and determine the value of the stock.

Post a 150- to 225-word (2- to 3-paragraph) explanation of the value of your selected common stock. In your explanation, do the following:
– Describe the common stock that you located, including a link to the web page where you located the information about the stock.
– Explain what the value of the stock is and describe how you determined its value.
– Provide a rationale for why or why not you would recommend investing in the stock.

To support your response, be sure to reference at least one properly cited scholarly source.

Demonstrate the application of each theory or philosopher with real world examples of ethical dilemmas and how they could be resolved.

Your Signature Assignment for this course is a 3-4 page paper (excluding cover page and references) with cited research, utilizing at least a minimum of 2 academic sources (such as those in the TUW library) in addition to any web research.
Pick two ethical theories or philosophers from the class.
Identify the similarities, differences, strengths and weaknesses of the basic tenants and arguments of each theory or philosopher.
Demonstrate the application of each theory or philosopher with real world examples of ethical dilemmas and how they could be resolved.
Pick one of the theories or philosophers with which you agree most and explain why you prefer that ethical view over the other
Explain how the ethical theories and decision-making constructs of this philosophy contribute to your own ethical code and to the potential development of a 21st century global ethical standard.
Remember to apply relevant concepts and terminology in your analysis and explanations.
Your goal is to make an argument and support it with clear, original and thorough analysis of the themes, arguments, vocabulary, terms and information presented in the course readings and lectures. Your work will be evaluated for the specificity with which it answers the prompt, the clarity of its thesis, the cohesiveness of its argument, and the extent to which it demonstrates a clear understanding of the central content, critical ideas, and key themes of the course.
