The government should adjust residency financing to bring about the desired mix of physicians instead of relying on market forces to adjust the specialty mix of physicians in the USA The United States has the most specialty mix in the world as the government continues to support residency training. Other countries have a high proportion of physicians in primary care or non-specialist fields. This causes problems not only for patients but also for federal funding for Medicare and Medicaid. As specialty training continues to increase, there are two primary effects:
increased health insurance premiums and an aging population that is increasingly vulnerable to chronic disease because of a lack of prevention education and healthcare providers. Fatalism is rising as older people are less likely to seek preventive care.
The United States continues to use market forces to determine the number of physicians in the country despite evidence that market forces are not effective in meeting the needs of patients. Through its monopoly on residency slots, the public has been subsidizing training for forty years and has led to an oversupply of specialists and a shortage of primary care physicians. As a result, the number of residents has increased at twice the rate of population growth since 1952

One of the five elements of emotional intelligence is self-awareness. Explain why emotional intelligence is crucial for effective leadership. Discuss what behaviors someone with a high degree of self-awareness would demonstrate within the context of leading and managing groups. Provide an example.

As always, your second post should be your own work and based on your reading and interpretation of the assigned readings for the week. While you can obviously read the posts that have been submitted before you add your comments, you should prepare your answers before you read someone else’s remarks. Simply repeating someone else’s findings ultimately hurts everyone because a lot of important information is missed and incorrect answers get repeated without reflection. I will read these posts in the order they are submitted, and second ones that are too similar to preceding ones will receive significantly fewer points.

According to your textbook, what were the impetuses behind the burst of imperialism in the second half of the nineteenth century? (Ferry actually addresses a couple of them in his speech.) Why did this wave occur when it did? Why was there also a widespread belief in places such as France and Great Britain that it was the “duty” of Westerners to civilize “inferior” peoples. (Where did this idea come from? Was it something new at the end of the nineteenth century?) What was Social Darwinism? Which European countries dominated the process of overseas expansion in the late 1900s? What problems led the Europeans to hold a conference in Berlin in 1884-85? What were its consequences?

How did this wave of imperialism affect the colonized peoples? What sorts of regimes or governments did the Europeans put in place to help them rule? How brutal was the process of colonization? (What were some of the worst consequences in places such as the Congo or India?)

Four years after the start of World War I it still was not clear, and the devastation and loss of life continued. World leaders deliberated and the masses wondered how the fighting would end. To understand what helped to end the war, and to understand a changing political landscape in Europe between the two World Wars, you will take a closer look at two important documents.
These two documents, “President Wilson’s Fourteen Points” and the Treaty of Versailles, had the power to put an end to World War I and to help move Europe toward peaceful post-war rebuilding. But, what motivated Woodrow Wilson to make a speech to the U.S. Congress in 1918, outlining his “Fourteen Points”? And, how and why did nations agree to come together and sign the Treaty of Versailles in 1919? What did nations hope to achieve?
In your Assignment this week you will analyze these two important documents, and examine what countries gained and lost.
To prepare for this Assignment:
Review the Lukacs and Ginneken readings in this week’s Learning Resources, as well as the Treaty of Versailles and President Wilson’s Fourteen Points, to get a full understanding of the context and content of both documents.

Determine what each of the major war nations achieved and lost according to the terms of the Treaty of Versailles.
Reflect on how victorious nations came to agreement on the terms of the Treaty of Versailles, the tensions among nations that existed at the time of the signing, and which countries were left out of the negotiations.

are vital to effective communication between students, families, and other
teachers. This week, you will provide a video/audio
for both good news and not-so-good news (I will do this portion from the paper
written).
This should be more like a script/paper with talking points and
some research to back up when talking with the parents.
