Investigation the regulation of plant water use efficiency

Title: Unraveling Plant-Microbe Interactions and the Role of ABA-Independent Oxylipin Pathway in Water Use Efficiency and Stress Tolerance in Crop Plants in Saudi Arabia
Objective:
The objective of this PhD proposal is to investigate the role of the ABA-independent oxylipin pathway in modulating water use efficiency (WUE) and stress tolerance in crop plants suitable for cultivation in Saudi Arabia while exploring plant-microbe interactions that could further enhance the understanding of the molecular communication mechanisms between microorganisms and plants under water-limited conditions.

Background:
Water use efficiency (WUE) is a critical factor for plant productivity in arid and semi-arid regions like Saudi Arabia, where water scarcity and extreme environmental conditions pose significant challenges for agriculture. The ABA-independent oxylipin pathway, involving 12-oxo-phytodienoic acid (OPDA), has been shown to influence stomatal closure and immune defense in Arabidopsis. Investigating the role of this pathway in WUE and stress tolerance in crop plants suitable for Saudi Arabian agriculture, as well as understanding plant-microbe interactions, can provide valuable insights for developing strategies to improve crop productivity under water-limited conditions.

Research Questions:

How does the ABA-independent oxylipin pathway influence WUE and stress tolerance in crop plants suitable for cultivation in Saudi Arabia under normal and stress conditions, such as drought and salinity?
What are the key components of the ABA-independent oxylipin pathway in these crop plants, and how do they interact with other hormonal signaling pathways and molecular processes that govern WUE?
How do plant-microbe interactions influence the ABA-independent oxylipin pathway, and can specific beneficial microorganisms improve WUE and stress tolerance in crop plants suitable for cultivation in Saudi Arabia?
Can manipulation of the ABA-independent oxylipin pathway and targeted application of beneficial microorganisms lead to improved WUE and enhanced tolerance to environmental stressors in these crop plants?

Methodology:

Perform comparative analysis of the ABA-independent oxylipin pathway components in crop plants suitable for Saudi Arabian agriculture using bioinformatics tools and available genomic and transcriptomic data.
Conduct targeted gene knockout and overexpression experiments in selected crop plants to study the function of key components in the ABA-independent oxylipin pathway and their impact on WUE and stress tolerance.
Identify and isolate beneficial microorganisms (e.g., endophytes and rhizobacteria) from the native soils of Saudi Arabian agricultural regions and study their potential in promoting WUE and stress tolerance in crop plants.
Investigate the molecular communication mechanisms between these beneficial microorganisms and the host plants, focusing on the interaction with the ABA-independent oxylipin pathway.
Measure WUE in genetically modified plants and plants inoculated with beneficial microorganisms under different environmental conditions (e.g., drought, salinity, and varying light intensities) using gas exchange measurements, stable isotope analysis, and assessment of stomatal conductance and photosynthesis rates.
Expected Outcomes:

Identification of key components of the ABA-independent oxylipin pathway and their impact on WUE in crop plants suitable for Saudi Arabian agriculture.
Comprehensive understanding of the role of the ABA-independent oxylipin pathway in modulating WUE and stress tolerance in these crop plants under different environmental conditions.
Identification of beneficial microorganisms and their potential to improve WUE and stress tolerance in crop plants suitable for cultivation in Saudi Arabia.
Insights into the molecular communication mechanisms between beneficial microorganisms and host plants, particularly in relation to the ABA-independent oxylipin pathway.
Development of strategies for improving crop WUE and stress

Web Services

aOutcomes covered in this activity:

Unit Outcome:

Describe how to add a web service to a webpage.
Course Outcome:

IT391-5: Evaluate web services.

Purpose

The purpose of this assignment is to utilize a third-party web service in an original program created by the student.

Assignment
For this assignment, you will use two web service application programming interfaces (APIs): Google Geocoding™ and Google Maps™. You will provide a form for the user to enter an address, city, state, and ZIP code. This information will be passed to the Google Geocoding API, which will convert the address to the latitude and longitude coordinates. You will want to study the Google Geocoding API to understand the data format requirements and think about how you will have to massage the form data to meet the API requirements. The latitude and longitude coordinates will then be passed to the Google Maps API, and you will display the map for the location in three different formats (e.g., road view, satellite, and hybrid).

Keep in mind the multi-tier architecture that you learned in Unit 7 and try to use this approach of keeping GUI and business logic separate. Be creative in how you control the display of the 3 views. You might display all of them at once, use radio button controls to select between the 3 views or any other options you want to use in your design.

Requirements

1. Student creates form for entry of address of their choice (including address, city, state, ZIP).
2. The address data is passed to the Google Geocoding API to convert the address to latitude and longitude.
3. The latitude and longitude are then passed to Google Maps API, and the location is mapped in three different map formats.

narrative non ficition

Write a 500-word Narrative Essay. Please use 12-pt, Courier New font as the standard font for all of your papers.

Now that you’ve written using descriptive detail, you may find it easier to review a memory (non-fiction), to show your reader a story by using an incredibly important memory that gives your reader an idea of what you actually value in life (not what you believe, as that is not the same concept—AT ALL).

For instance, if what you value is baking, then you might have a detailed memory about baking cookies with a family member, or baking in highschool cooking class. You must SHOW your value, not TELL your value. No one cares about what you believe; people care about who you are through what you value. What you value, ultimately, decides your actual beliefs.

So, go back into a memory, and simply live it, as if you are reading a novel that is a live narration of events in your life.
ere is the rub:

DO NOT WRITE ME AN EDITORIAL. I’m not interested in your opinion. Relive a memory of your choice, then leave that memory on the page. Don’t tell your reader how s/he should feel about something. Let the reader figure out who you are by their reading of your re-lived memory. They will see what you value in that memory, or what is happening to you, thus will come to understand the author, you, as a person.

What you value is deeper than what you believe. If you “tell” your readers about this, I will hand the paper back, and ask for a rewrite. Tell your reader nothing; show the reader everything. Let your reader see you through the storytelling language of the memory, using the descriptive style you’ve already written.

Keep in mind that you’ve already tried your hand at descriptive writing. It is used, heavily, in the narration style of writing.

Fiction Analysis Paper

Task:
Choose one short story (not from the flash fiction selections) that you would like to analyze through the scope of “identity”. Choose one that has connections that are clear to you, and that you have an interest in. The short stories have all related to a theme of “identity” through scopes of religion, gender, family, culture, etc. Craft a thesis that highlights this identity issue and support your position by using textual support and the elements of fiction.

Considerations:
Consider the elements of fictions that were discussed in lecture (point of view, setting, tone, etc.).3 You do not need to address all the elements, but you should address at least four in the paper. Choose what supports your thesis the most. Be creative! Papers do go through a plagiarism checker, so please do not just use “fluff” from the internet. Make sure to conclude your paper with the bigger picture about identity in the story. Did the author emphasize a point that resonated well? Make sure to highlight that in your conclusion.

Building Your Support:
At least four elements of fiction should be analyzed with the idea of “identity” being kept in mind. Also, please include at least two outside sources (textbook can count as one), to help support your thesis statement. This evidence can come from outside criticism of the work, but it needs to be cited properly. Alternatively, you can give a more detailed definition of identity, and the type of identity displayed in the story, from an outside source.

Formatting for Paper:
MLA formatting rules should be followed:

TNR, font 12, double space, 1-inch margins, don’t put extra spaces in between paragraphs, left align paper
Set up your paper with the following page number and heading formatting:

Last Name #
Your Full Name
Professor Lozauskas
Course
Day Month Year

Work must include proper MLA in-text citations for textual support, as well as a proper Works Cited page.
Length of Paper:
– 4-5 pages (must be at least 4 FULL pages), not including the Works Cited page
