School district data collection and comparative analysis
You have been tasked by the board of education to design a community presentation about financial resources and student performance. Using the state of OHIO websites, look-up your districts most recent financial data. (Marlington Local Schools IRN 049882) Also obtain a copy of the districts Annual Financial Report (AFR) and district report card for the same fiscal year. Compare your school district with at least three other local school districts of similar size and demographic make-up. Collect, analyze and interpret the data to demonstrate your knowledge of the school report card and ability to research any other financial/student performance data available to the public or on the state website. Test your findings by sharing it with an administrator from your district.
Areas for data collection should include: the diverse make-up of student body and community, socio-economic status (free and reduced lunch), standardized (state and national) testing results, etc. Likewise, financial data may include issues of wealth, tax base, budget, cost per pupil, reserves, and enrollments.
Analyze your data to determine the strengths and weakness of your school district about student performance and financial resources. How does your districts student performance compare to the other districts when accounting for financial resources? Include graphs and charts to demonstrate this information. Your paper should be 5-6 pages long. Your paper should be organized as follows:
1. Demographics: Your school district and those chosen for comparison purposes.
2. Analysis: Compare your district to the other three districts with respect to district resources, finances and student performance. Use the research you did in assignment #2 to assess class size and teacher compensation in each district. Include graphs and charts as appropriate.
3. Strengths/Weaknesses: What are the strengths/weaknesses of your district relative to student finances/performance when compared to the other districts?
4. Ranking: Rank all four districts from most efficient to least efficient (i.e., 1 through 4 based on whos getting the most bang for the buck?). Provide an explanation as to how you arrived at your rankings. What do you believe the impact of the results of your ranking would be on promoting trust about how district resources are spent in your community?

To help overcome shoppers reluctance to buy eyewear online, Warby Parker has been test marketing the concept called Home Try-On, in which people in the South Florida test market can order five pairs of frames, keep them for five days at no cost, then decide which pair they would like to order, and which they will send back. This gives shoppers lots of time to try on the frames they are considering and get the opinions of family and friends.
On the job (Internal, Unsolicited Proposal)
Write a 2-3 page (2 if single-spaced, 3 or more if double-spaced) internal proposal, in memo form, to Mr. Gilboa, with your evaluation of the test market results and your recommendation how the company should proceed with this concept based on that test. Remember to include headings or sub-headings for each section in the proposal that explain this program-e.g. Background, Solution, Recommendation, etc. Make sure to correctly identify and analyze your audience, as well as any possible secondary audiences. Remember, Mr. Gilboa, the person to whom you submit your proposal, is in a position to order the implementation of the change recommended.
It is important that you develop this memo with your own thoughts and input. You can make the test market experience good or bad, and base your recommendation on that. Make up any information you wish to bolster your case; in the real world, you would have this kind of data and information before you would write this memo.

Background: As you knowprofits down, store rents rising, we are seen as an old-fashion, undynamic company by the general public. Question: is the internet the answer? Marketing came
up with concept of Home Try-On, and began test marketing it in South Florida in November of last year.
Perceived Risks Prior to Test Market: Concept too confusing for public? What if customers did not return the 4 pair of frames they did not want? What sort of breakage might be expected? Would postage and handling be too costly?
Test Market Results: Public seemed to love the concept. Orders very high. 98% return rate on 4 pairs they did not want. Virtually no breakage. Minimal shipping and handling costs, because customer had to agree beforehand to absorb these costs.
Recommendation: Expand test market to entire East Coast for an additional 4 months. Prepare to go nationwide if results from that test equally encouraging

Renting an aircraft from a fixed-base operator (FBO), a
college student who is a private pilot heads out on a cross-country trip to
spend Thanksgiving at home, bringing along a non-pilot friend. Due to a later
than planned start, the two arrive later than anticipated at the last planned
fuel stop at a rural airport, only to find the FBO closed and the fuel pumps
locked. A cell phone call to the FBOs number yields a recorded message that
the business is closed for the holiday weekend. Estimating that at least an
hours fuel remains in the aircrafts tanks, the pilot takes off again,
planning to refuel at the next airport along the route. Unfortunately, the
pilots estimate proves wrong and the aircraft runs out of fuel on approach to
the next airport. In the dark, the pilot lands short of the runway and the
airplane is destroyed, and the passenger is seriously injured, though the pilot
escapes with minor scrapes and bruises.

Is the pilot legally liable for the passengers injuries and
to the FBO for destroying its airplane? Explain. Your answer should discuss
which law applies (the 4-part negligence test) and why.

Now that you’ve read some examples of literacy narratives, watched the Cynthia Selfe video and done some of your own reflection, you’re in a good position to put this into a useable form for yourself by writing a literacy narrative: a story about your own literacy development that links the past, the present, and the future.
Write a literacy narrative that details important moments or trends in your own literacy development. It can be a person who inspired you as in a sponsor of your literacy and many other things. It is not an autobiography. Explain how this past has shaped you in the present, and imagine how your literacy will develop in your future. It’s better to focus on 1-2 important moments or an important trend than try to narrate your entire timeline.

About 3-4 pages in revised, proofread text. Make it lively, honest, interesting, and unique. Using “I” is definitely ok here because you are writing about yourself.
You do not need to use texts from the course or elsewhere, but if you do, make sure to cite them in-text in MLA

Use these to frame your central finding and to relate to the other authors. Knoblauch, Brandt and any of the other readings can be used to inform your audience(the academic audience) what literacy means in this essay’s context.

Invention, Research, and Analysis: Start your literacy narrative by considering your history as a reader and writer. Try to get at what your memories and feelings about writing/reading are and how you actually write/read now. Do not make bland generalizations (I really love to write), but go into detail about how you learned to write/read. Mine your memory, thinking carefully about where youve been and where you are as a reader and writer. You might begin by answering questions such as:
What are particularly vivid memories that you have of reading, writing, or activities that involved them?
What sense did you get, as you were learning to read and write, of the value of reading and writing, and where did that sense come from?
What frustrated you about reading and writing as you were learning and then as you progressed through school? By the same token, what pleased you about them?
Have you ever used writing to change something in your life, or for your family or community?
Where do you think your feelings about and habits of writing and reading come from? How did you get to where you are as a writer/reader? What in your past has made you the kind of writer/reader you are today?

Questions like these help you start thinking deeply about your literate past. You should try to come up with some answers for all of them, but its unlikely that youll actually include all the answers to all those questions in your literacy narrative itself. Right now youre just thinking and writing about what reading and writing was like for you. When you plan the narrative, youll select from among all the material youve been remembering and thinking about. The question then becomes, how will you decide what to talk about out of everything you could talk about? This depends in part on your analysis of what youre remembering.
As you consider what all these memories and experiences suggest, you should be looking for an overall so what?a main theme, a central finding, an overall conclusion that your consideration leads you to draw. It might be an insight about why you read and write as you do today based on past experience. It might be an argument about what works or what doesnt work in literacy education, on the basis of your experience. It might be a resolution to do something differently, or to keep doing something thats been working. It might be a description of an ongoing conflict or tension you experience when you read and writeor the story of how you resolved such a conflict earlier in your literacy history. (It could also be a lot of other things.)
Here are some of the premises that you will be working with in this research:

Writing is linked to identity and provides representation of ideologies and identities.
