I have the professors specific instruction recommendations uploaded on the files. The yellow highlighted text on the paper should either be re-worked, or removed in order to fit the paper appropriately with the topic, and or have clear hard evidence shown to back up the claim. The purpose of the Research Project is to allow you to synthesize your knowledge of Greek myth and a contemporary cultural illustration, thus illuminating the strong connection between Classical myth and 21st century society. In short, you are to compare an ancient myth to an example of that myth found in modern-day society.
The final Research Project will be a written report that addresses aspects of your chosen myth, the modern iteration of that myth, and the connections between the two. It will be clearly divided, using subtitles, the following sections (suggested word counts in parentheses):
Introduction (100-150 words)
This section should provide a brief note on the ancient Greek myth you will be considering, the modern representation you will be comparing it with, and how you intend to make this comparison. It should also contain a thesis statement that states clearly and concisely the aims of your Research Project. The use of sources in the Introduction is not expected, but keep in mind that any information obtained from an external sourcethat is, anything that is not common knowledgeshould be cited.

The Ancient Myth (250-300 words)
This section should provide a description of the myth you will be exploring and the ancient author that wrote it. It should explain not only what the myth is but also the context behind the myth and what its deeper meaning might be.
Your ancient source(s) should be prominent in this section, but it may also be useful to include secondary sources, particularly when describing modern views of your myth/ancient author.

The Modern Iteration (150-200 words)
This section should introduce and explain what the modern iteration of your myth is, describing simply without relating it to your myth (yet!). Include what, exactly, this modern example isis it a film, novel, product, service, concept, etc.and note some of the characteristics that you will use to make your comparison.

Secondary sources may be useful here if they deal explicitly with your modern example. Depending on the nature of this modern example, such things as the film/novel itself or company/product websites/literature should be included.

Connections (300-400 words)
This section is where the connections and relationships between the two iterations of your myththe ancient and the modernwill be examined. Many of the characteristic you will use to make this comparison and highlight their connections should have been explored briefly in the previous two sections; this is where you put everything together.

Being the section where the ancient and modern meet, both your ancient and secondary sources should be used here, as well as any additional sources as necessary.

Conclusion (100-150 words)
This section should provide your final word the comparison youve made and how you were successful in doing so. It should very briefly restate your argument(s) and how you made them.

As with the Introduction, it is not necessary to include sources in the Conclusion unless, of course, any outside information is used.
Requirements for the Research Project
There are a number of requirements for the successful completion of the Research Project. Please pay careful attention to these items.
Thesis, Content, and Depth of Concepts
The myth chosen must be from the corpus of ancient Greek myth.
The modern iteration must be from the 21st century.
There is a clear thesis that indicates the goal of the assignment.
Material presented must be firmly grounded in, and connected to, the source material and the concepts examined in the course.
Research and Citation
The paper must contain AT LEAST one (1) ancient source and AT LEAST three (3) scholarly secondary sources. This is in addition to the course textbook, which may be used as well.
Translations of ancient sources MUST be drawn from the Perseus Digital Library unless otherwise discussed with the Instructor.
Additional popular sourceswebsites, magazines, videos, etc.may be used, but be cognizant of how they are used. They should not be used in circumstances where secondary sources are more appropriate. They DO NOT count towards the minimum number of sources.
Any appropriate citation style may be used so long as it is done so consistently.
Any citationsin-text or footnotesmust include page numbers or book/chapter/line numbers, unless those are not provided.
A bibliography of all sources used and consulted must be included.
Note: dictionaries, encyclopaedias, websites, magazines, course materials, etc. are NOT scholarly secondary sources.
Organization
