You are required to answer one of three essay questions described below. The essay portion must be 4-5 pages in length, double-spaced, numbered, include 1 inch margins, use 12 point Arial, Calibri, or Times New Roman font.
Your essay must include a Works Cited page. The citation style of the Works Cited page may be either Chicago, APA, or MLA. The selected citations must be appropriate to the exam topic and the citations must support the assertions made in the exam.
Your essay will include three main partsthe Thesis/Introduction, Argument, and Conclusion.
The Introduction section should clearly state the thesis within the first 1-2 paragraphs. The Argument section (3-4 pages) should incorporate pertinent details from the assigned readings but you may also use outside readings. The section must provide relevant historical evidence to support the thesis and the key claims made in the argument as needed. It should maintain focus and avoid sidetracking. It should present your answer to the question clearly and concisely in an organized manner and it should be free of grammar and spelling errors.
The Conclusion section should be in the last part of your essay exam within the last 1-2 paragraphs. It should briefly restate the thesis and summarize the main points of the argument. It should also demonstrate insight and understanding regarding the question asked and it should be free of grammar and spelling errors.

3. In recent years, there have been a number of efforts to remove statues, monuments and other memorials to the Confederacy. The Confederate flag was finally removed from most if not all state flags. Explain whether “removing” the Confederacy from our national historical landscape is a positive or negative action. Dell Technologies CEO Michael Dell announced that the firm will spin off its 81% ownership stake in VMWare. The two firms will become distinct entities and the move is expected to generate over $9 billion for Dell. However, the two firms will continue their strategic partnership with Dell focusing on hardware while VMWare will focus on cloud computing and virtualization software.
Dell acquired VMWare as part of its 2015 $67 billion acquisition of EMC. However, now Dells hardware business has seen a significant pandemic boost as demand soared for home computing equipment. While Dells stock is up over 83% in the past 12 to 14 months Michael Dell stated that the market did not appear to appreciate a firm that focused on both hardware and software.
As part of the spin-off VMWare will distribute a special cash dividend of about $12 billion to its shareholders. Dell will receive approximately $9.5 billion of that amount for its ownership stake in the firm. Dell will use the money to pay down debt and improve its credit profile by simplifying its capital structure. Michael Dell stated the spin-off would let each firm focus on their specific high growth areas and unlock significant value for stakeholders.
