Social media plays a significant role in the lives of nurses in both their professional and personal lives. Additionally, social media is now considered a mainstream part of the process for recruiting and hiring candidates. Inappropriate or unethical conduct on social media can create legal problems for nurses as well as the field of nursing.
Login to all social media sites in which you engage. Review your profile, pictures and posts. Based on the professional standards of nursing, identify items that would be considered unprofessional and potentially detrimental to your career and that negatively impact the reputation of the nursing field.
In 500-750 words, summarize the findings of your review. Include the following:
1. Describe the posts or conversations in which you have engaged that might be considered inappropriate based on the professional standards of nursing.
2. Discuss why nurses have a responsibility to uphold a standard of conduct consistent with the standards governing the profession of nursing at work and in their personal lives. “Outline circumstances that have led to your academic difficulty and what you plan to do differently during the upco-ming academic year.”

These are the circumstances that contributed to me not doing well that I would like to put in my statement:
1) I had caught covid the weekend before the semester started.
– Semester started Feb 1, 2021. I caught covid about 4 days prior and my symptoms were very didnt fully recover till Feb 6th-7th.
– Me being sick also prohibited me from enrolling in all my classes on time, therefore I started the semester already behind.

2) My cousin caught covid and was staying over at my house with my family.
– My cousin and I are very close and he goes to school not too far from where I live. He doesn’t have any other family members in the state of NY other than me and my parents, so when he caught covid my mother insisted on him staying with us because she was extremely worried about him since he suffers from underlying health issues (asthma) He stayed with us from the middle of March till the end of March.

3) My aunt is suffering from cancer.
– My Aunt Maggie, is my only aunt on my father’s side that I have a close relationship with. She’s not only been a support system for me but she’s also my best friend.
– In Februray, not only did I find out that her breast cancer had returned, but I also found out that she has ovarian cancer as well. Seeing her suffer like this had a major effect on my mental space. I wasn’t taking it well whatsoever.
– I was responsible of taking her to her weekly appointments and chemotherapy treatments in Manhattan. These trips lasted anywhere from 3 hours to 6 hours and sometimes I had to take her two or even three times a week depending on if she was dealing with a lot of pain and the doctors insisted on seeing her immediately.

How I plan to do differently this upcoming semester:
1) I plan to return back on campus.
– Not being on campus played a major factor to my grades. I wasn’t capable of learning properly due to all the issues my family faced the past couple of months. I was distracted and wasn’t able to focus. Being back on campus will keep focused and capable to not let the problems at home get in the way of me learning while I’m back up at school.
2) I plan on enrolling myself in the school turoring services so I can receive the extra help I need to achieve and maintain the GPA that my school requires.
3) I also plan on changing my major from Biological Sciences to Public Health.
– Biological sciences wasn’t for me, the major itself was overwhelming and I personally don’t see myself wanting to continue in the major, but public health has been a major I’ve become really fond of.

These days, many people use the internet for their
sources of information on drugs. However, many internet sites dont always have
the most objective or valid information. Some websites may have a particular
agenda (such as promoting the legalization of drugs, or supporting a stronger
War on Drugs), and therefore use selective bias in their information. Others
may be written by non-experts who are simply giving their opinion without
substantiating their claims. In some cases it may be hard to tell if the
information you are reading was written by an expert on substance abuse issues
who works in a drug research center, or a high school student writing a blog in
their parents basement.

For your assignment you need to select one illegal drug
(i.e., marijuana, cocaine, heroin, ecstasy, etc.), and compare and contrast two
different websites that give information about that drug. You first need to compare
the information on each site. Then you need to critically analyze the
information on each site in terms of its validity and objectivity. In order to
do that you should address the following points in your comparison.

What
is the purpose and affiliation of the organization or author of the website?

What
are the authors credentials?

Is
the information current? When was the information last updated?

Does
the source contain bias without evidence to back up the claims?

Finally, you need
to discuss which website you find more credible and why. One good way to
justify your choice is to cross-reference the information on the websites with
another type of source that is known to be credible such as a peer reviewed
journal article that you found on an academic database at the John Jay Library.
Generally, peer reviewed articles are considered more credible because they
have been checked for validity issues prior to being published. Therefore, if
your websites contain information that can also be found in a peer-reviewed
research article, it gives it more credibility. In other words, for this
assignment, you not only have to compare the two websites, but should also find
a few academic articles to cross reference the information with.
