Scenario
As a BSN student, you are shadowing a Nurse Informaticist to better understand their role and impact in making healthcare decisions. You have one day in this immersion and will be exposed to several Health Information Technologies and their impact on healthcare decision making. Due to the fast-paced nature of the Nurse Informaticist role, the clinic manager has asked nursing students to come prepared to fully immerse into this fast-paced environment. You received a welcome email for your assigned Nurse Informaticist providing you with her background, but also asking you to spend some time reflecting on your own experience with healthcare technology. Reflect on your experiences both as a client and as a nurse, and how technology leveraged the decisions you have made. She also wants you to think about how technology evolves and its implications for future use.

Your instructor has just released your pre-clinical paperwork, and you have been asked to write a professional reflection in preparation for the next day’s shadowing experience. You must provide detailed responses to the following:

Explain one technology you have used in healthcare
Explain the impact of the technology using referenced support with in text citation
Describe how you used this type of technology to support a healthcare decision
Describe an example illustrating how use of the technology effected your decision making
Research the evolution of your identified technology using the technology life cycle
How has the technology evolved and where is it heading (past, present, future)?
How has this evolution improved healthcare decision making?

Leadership on the Red Planet Term Project – First President of Colony Mars

Human moves to Mars a few years ago. Life there is challenging and interesting in a number of ways. One of the major challenges faced by the early settlers was the greed of corporations involved in illegal genetic experiments. This resulted in human cloning. They also created some hybrids of humans and clones. The greed and illegal genetic engineering resulted in the death of many colonists on Mars. Only a few humans and clones survived.
Six years later NASA sent a new mission to investigate the cause of the destruction of the first colony. They are not aware of the survivors and genetic engineering labs set up by a consortium of corporations. The new mission faced harsh conditions due to the spread of a bacteria created in a lab. All of them got killed except you and Dr Jann Malbec a scientist.
There were a few wars between the corporations involved in this illegal genetic engineering and a group of good humans (you and Dr. Malbec) and a few clones and hybrids who joined you.
The corporations transported the deadly bacteria and transported it back to earth. This created a pandemic like situation. Many humans died. One of the leaders of colonists on mars Dr. Jann Malbec has created a vaccine to kill bacteria. After long negotiations with leaders on earth, she and a group of hybrids and clones have won independence for Mars in exchange for the vaccine. You are the first President of Colony Mars (you are one of the hybrids who survived the war). This is the real test of your leadership skills. How will you set up a new state on the Red Planet?
You have a population of 2000 people (1500 humans and 500 clones and hybrids). More humans are on their way to Mars. There have been extensive negotiations between the Mars’s Ruling Council and governments and corporations on earth. Many corporations are interested in setting up permanent stations on Mars to explore new routes to asteroids for mining of precious metals and transporting them back to earth. You have the following tasks as the new leader.
1. Propose a new vision for the newly established Republic of Mars. Your vision should address the following:
a) Protecting and ensuring the sovereignty of Martian people on their land in future and protect them from the conspiracies of greedy corporations and some governments on the earth.
b) Ensure harmony between the early colonists, hybrids, and clones to avoid internal conflicts. Such conflicts can be exploited by the enemies of Mars.
c) Expansion and creation of new facilities for the future colonists arriving from earth.
2. What kind of leadership is required in such a situation? Think about a leadership theory (or theories) and model that may help you in this situation.
3. How will you ensure the sustainability and safety of life on Mars? What type of cooperation you will require from the governments and corporations on earth?
4. What type of cultural set up and events you envisage for the future of Mars?
5. What type of leaders you will select as ministers and administrators?
6. What are your other plans for future?

Written Response—Intercultural Competencies: Environmental Scan and Analysis

Word length: Approximately 2,000-2,500 words (8-10 double-spaced pages)
For this final assignment, you will compile, discuss, and analyze information on an intended or a possible future global career placement of your choosing. You will conduct a brief environmental scan (i.e., gathering a minimum of seven (7) sources) on a particular international or global organization of your choosing, and your response to the questions below should reflect the cultural context within which this global organization operates. As a part of your report, you will research and analyze the (inter)cultural aspects of a specific position or work experience that you are interested in.

NOTE: you should not attempt to define all aspects of an international or a global organization. Rather, you should clearly define and communicate (e.g., within question 1) the limitations, parameters, and specific context of the position for which you are gathering information.
You are encouraged to be creative in your data gathering strategies; for instance, in addition to printed materials, you may gather data from online sources (e.g., journals, newsletters, websites, videos, social media, etc.).
This assignment should be written as one essay which responds to ALL of the seven (7) questions. For each question, make sure you provide an explanation and rationale that supports and demonstrates your analysis.
Also, remember to provide a cover page, an introduction paragraph that frames your responses, and a conclusion paragraph that synthesizes and summarizes your analysis.

Questions (note: suggested response length is one to one-and-a-half pages per question):
1. What global organizational context and position are you researching? Why?
2. What sources of information are available from your research? Which are the most valuable to you, and why?
3. What do your sources outline (i.e., what did you learn from your research)? What do they miss (i.e., what questions are you left with)? How might you try to discover answers to these outstanding/unanswered questions (e.g. you can suggest strategies for discovering answers for the outstanding questions)?
4. How does the context of the information sources (e.g., viewpoints / perspectives / objectives / biases of the authors, etc.) matter?
5. What are the main differences between this global organizational context and your current work/life context?
6. What global relationships or global leadership qualities can be seen within this organization? Which are less obvious or visible?
7. What intercultural differences or conflicts might you anticipate working at the international or global organization? How could you try to address or manage these potential conflicts and foster positive intercultural communication?

The following criteria will be used to assess this assignment:
Clear and appropriate writing style, including proper use of grammar, vocabulary, sentence structure, expression, citation of sources, etc. 5 marks

Thorough written discussion that considers cultural issues and intersections from different perspectives, demonstrating appropriate analysis of the topics and concepts listed in the questions posed. 25 marks
Effectively incorporates supporting information from a variety of sources in order to provide an accurate and balanced analysis of the questions posed. Use of a minimum of seven substantive sources for full marks. 10 marks

TOTAL 40 marks

ENG367_Revision and Reflection for close Reading

What you need to do:
1.
Read through the feedback and rubric results you’ve received across the assignments for the class and select one you would like to revise
2.
Revise that assignment based on that feedback and your own assessment of your writing. This means
Identify your major areas for improvement based on the feedback you received and make a plan for revision.
Identify major areas for improvement based on your own judgment of your work
This does
not
merely mean correcting surface errors of spelling and grammar. Though mechanics are important to revise as well, do not mistake them for your main priority.
Revising almost always requires changes on the sentence and paragraph level, meaning that you will need to do some rearranging, re-writing, deleting, or adding. Sometimes, revising also requires restructuring the entire essay. Address any issues of the thesis, meaning, structure, supporting detail, logic, etc., by looking at your entire paper, and get messy when necessary.
It is common to become attached to writing that you’ve produced in the past—especially if you worked hard to polish it in the first place. However, revising will require you to let go of aspects of your original paper; you may be surprised to find that you can produce even better writing than what you thought was perfect before.
3.
Complete your revision charts with the major changes you made. Point form is acceptable. The first chart should reflect my feedback and the responses you’ve made to it. The second should reflect your OWN assessment for improvement and the responses you’ve made to it.
4.
In full sentences, respond to the three reflections prompt questions that you need to do:

China and India – the population super giants

What to include in your paper?
In your research paper you should firstly introduce the region of your study (e.g. where is it, what is it like, who lives there, etc.) Then you need to analyze the nature of the issue, describe the research data and methods (if any), characterize geographic patterns discovered, provide possible explanations for the observed patterns, and discuss the future outlook or policy implication of the issue. In other words, in addition to describing what the issue is, and what its impact is on the region, you need to think about and discuss when and why the issue arose in the first place, and what is likely to happen in the future (i.e. worsen or improve?)

Reference
You are required to consult sources such as books or journal articles. You should make reference to at least one academic source other than the textbook. You must clearly cite any sources you use. The referencing system you use is up to you (e.g. APA citation style or MLA citation style), but it must be consistent, and the reader must be able to determine exactly where you got the material from.

Formatting Requirements
Your research paper should be of about 7-15 pages in length (including the title page and
bibliography but excluding tables, figures and maps). You may place all your tables and maps after the text and bibliography. If you have multiple tables and/or maps, they should be clearly numbered (e.g. Table 1, Table 2, etc.). Your paper should be typed and double-spaced in 12 point font with one inch margins.

Module 03 Assignment – Appraise the Components of the Research Process

Module 02 Assignment – Theories Guiding Nursing Practice

Scenario:You are working as a Registered Nurse at a local hospital that has recently changed ownership. The new owners of the hospital are committed to a culture that embraces evidence-based practice (EBP) and utilizes EBP as a guide for their policies and procedures. The focus on evidence-based practice can be seen as part of the hospital’s mission statement and local advertising campaign which states, “Evidence-based practice: The key to advancing quality and safety in healthcare.” While the hospital mission includes the statement: “…to be the healthcare center of choice, through superior clinical outcomes, evidence-based practice-driven protocols, and the advancement of practice utilizing formal and continuing education.”The hospital leadership team has shared that they are beginning the process of applying for Magnet status as a healthcare facility. They have asked for volunteers to serve on a sub-committee to select a nursing theorist as a framework that will be used to guide nursing practice. You have been asked to research the various nursing theorists, and select two to present to the leadership team.

Content:

From the list provided, select two nursing theorists. Prepare a written proposal that compares and contrasts the two theories and makes a recommendation for which theory would be a better fit for the facility. Please include the following in your proposal:Identify the two selected theorists and briefly summarize each theory. Compare and contrast the two selected theories.Formulate a recommendation for the theorist that best aligns to the facility.
