As communities and individuals face new threats of marginalization, discrimination, and violence, the School of Social Work is resolved to uphold its long-standing commitment to core social work values and principles of social justice for all human beings and systems. This presentation is an opportunity for social work students to think critically and differently about diversity, equity, and inclusion and to understand the complex nature of the person-in- environment by considering the dynamics of racism, oppression, privilege, and discrimination. Students will select a marginalized group and present what policies and social interaction impact and address social injustice by challenging the processes of discrimination and oppression which create barriers to inclusion and lead to social exclusion; it seeks to address power imbalances and empower people to develop and connect to networks and services to improve health and well- being. Each student will develop a related presentation for the class (100 points).
1. Your presentation should begin with a brief description of your chosen social topic or social problem. Be sure your topic is something you can easily research to find enough evidence and proof to support your ideas supporting power imbalances. It would be best if you always looked for academically proven and reliable sources you can cite in your presentation. Listing your opinions without using sufficient logical support from outside sources will not be acceptable. Please note that only two-three slides are to be devoted to describing the social issue/problem/concern (20 points)
