a) Explain Machine Learning (ML), various types of machine learning, and provide examples for each type. Define ML-based artificial intelligence and explain its key functions. How does ML-based artificial intelligence differ from traditional artificial intelligence?
b) Select a firm in an industry of your choosing (e.g., banking sector, insurance, healthcare, retail etc.). Explore, in detail, three channels through which ML algorithms or AI systems can automate critical tasks or processes within the firm/organisation to create value. Support yo ur analysis by referring to specific firms or start-ups in the sector.
c) Reflect on how the management of AI-driven firms differs from the management of traditional firms. Will AI algorithms substitute or complement managers? How do leading (managing) AI-driven firms differ from leading traditional organisations? Will the rise of AI algorithms, for example, affect a firm’s capital structure or financial decisions? Richly draw on relevant peer-reviewed academic literature on management and leadership.
d) Explain how AI-driven firms will compete in the future. What will it take for an AIdriven firm to outcompete its rivals? Could AI or ML algorithms be a source of lasting competitive advantage?

Your argument must be structured around a clear thesis statement and remain grounded in the research you have collected over the course of the semester. You should use 7-10 sources in your argumentative essay.
Remember that in academic writing, your opinion must be supported by sources and should be positioned within a scholarly conversation. This means your sources should represent a variety of perspectives (including some you disagree with) and should be integrated into your writing as support for your own perspective using paraphrase, summary, and quotation. This a formal academic essay and should follow the vocabulary and grammar conventions of Standard American English.
Tips for Success
Avoid thinking of your topic as a pro-con debate (i.e. people are either for or veganism or for or against labeling GMO foods). All of the potential topics in this class are nuanced and complicated. You will write a much more successful argument essay if you can acknowledge those complications.
As much as possible, name your allies and your opponents. It is very easy to use general terms like “some people” or “those who disagree,” but these kinds of phrases lead to weak and often fallacious arguments. Connect your claims and your counterarguments to specific sources to strengthen your argument.
You may need to expand your research for this paper to make sure you are fully supporting your argument. Consider what questions readers will likely have about your claim and focus your research on answering those questions.

This paper should be submitted as a .doc or .docx file or as a PDF. Your work should be double spaced with one-inch margins. Use Calibri or Times New Roman font, size 12 for all text.
