Assignment 2

Music Important To You
Write a little bit about music (an artist, album, or song) that you find especially interesting or has personal importance to you. Try to use some of the terminology from this week to describe what you hear that is interesting (timbre, groove, harmony, etc.). If discussing lyrics, think about how they reflect that tie period/year, etc (don’t give a summary of the lyrics). Provide a link or embed the video into your response.

Example 1 Alex
One of my favorite songs is called People Everywhere Still Alive by a band called Khruangbin they are a three-person band (Electric, Base, Drums) the way would describe their music is worldly. This song in particular has few lyrics and mainly the lead guitar player Mark Speer creates a melody that changes throughout the whole song, almost as if his melodies were lyrics themselves telling a story. Watching the way he plays this song so casually is very hypnotizing People Everywhere Still Alive

Example 2 Israel

One of my favorite bands is Arcade Fire,  love Pink Floyd too but  don’t think I know enough to put into words why they’re so great. Arcade Fire’s first album Funeral, is my favorite of theirs even after listening to their entire discography. One of my favorite songs of theirs is the first song from Funeral, Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels)Links to an external site.. Lots of firsts so far.
The first thing that stuck out to me when  had first listened to the song was it’s use of changing melodies, the main melody that we hear on the beginning of the song shifts and morphs throughout. Starting at it’s probably simplest form with what sounds like a piano and a distorted electric guitar, then separating both instruments to play the melody again alone, then changing entire into a sung version of the melody in the last third of the song. Then to end back with the guitar more in focus with remnants of the piano continuing.

Personally speaking, the way to song musically progresses creates this sort of feeling of almost realization? It’s not simply just adding or taking away instruments, it feels a lot more purposeful in how it was constructed. Starting off with a feeling, then ending on a similar but changed one. think it feels nostalgic, despite not having even become a fan of the band up until a few years ago.

How do these artists represent the middle class audience they were targeting? How do these songs reflect the post-World War II mentality?
