Subcultural Theories of Crime
For this project I want to you illustrate either THE CODE OF THE STREEETS or THE SOUTHERN SUBCULTURE OF VIOLENCE-using PICTURES!
I only want you to pick one of them, then you are going to have to search the web to find your own images!
Please be sure to READ ALL THE DIRECTIONS BELOW, and if I have something in BOLD PRINT, you need to use that as your section heading.
please follow my format request.
Part 1: A brief discussion of _____XX____theory
In this section devote no more than ¾ of a page (typed and double spaced) to a discussion of the basic characteristics of EITHER the code of the streets or the southern subculture of violent.
You can get SOME out of the book,
Criminological Perspectives on Race and Crime
Shaun L. Gabbidon 3rd edition
but I also want you to search the web and find AT LEAST TWO more sources (which you need to cite).
Part 2: Images illustrating the characteristics of XX theory
In this section I want you to find ONLINE at least 6 images that illustrate your chosen theory. For example, if you are doing the Southern Subculture of Violence, you may include a picture of a truck flying a confederate flag. If you are doing the Code of the Streets, you may want to include a picture of a rundown rowhome with kids lighting tires on fire right outside (?). Please number your images 1 through 6
Part 3: Discussion of how each picture illustrates XX theory
For this part you are going to want to number your discussion to reflect the pictures you’ve included (e.g. 1) 2) and so one). Under each number write a SHORT paragraph discussing WHY this picture illustrates the theory. For example, if you’ve chosen the truck with the confederate flag, you are going to want to talk about what this flag represents-and how it ties in to the Southern Subculture of Violence (hint-the whole gentlemen, antebellum south blah blah blah thing). If you’ve chosen the rundown rowhome with out of control kids, what would Anderson say about this (street family, don’t care what their kids are doing). Each little write up should be a short paragraph (about 3-4 sentences), and the VERY BEST ones will cite either the book and/or your outside articles.
PLEASE NOTE: wherever I put XX you need to put in the theory you are using, and remove XX
Do tribes possess a nation-to-nation political relationship with the federal government, or are they merely another “minority,” defined as ethnic groups?
You will find these 3 questions on page 9 of Wilkin’s and Lomawaima’s introduction to Uneven Ground, and they address arguments and ideas that are analyzed in chapters 1, 2, and 3. Using (1) arguments, (2) ideas, (3) specific and illustrative examples, (4) other scholars’ perspectives, and (5) legal cases, answer each one, devoting approximately 2-to-3 pages of analysis to each question. Incorporate into your essay materials handed out in class, posted on Angel (such as McSloy, Prygoski, Stevenson, et al.), and materials from Uneven Ground and The Cherokee Cases. While these questions are written in an “either/or format,” keep in mind that nuanced and evaluative responses are more compelling, sophisticated, and elegant—in other words, the latter is likely to earn higher marks. Additionally, you are to answer a 4th question, not found in Uneven Ground. Your completed Midterm Essay submission will consist of a single .docx file containing 4 unique 2-3 page essays, each with their own title–numbered as they are below. Your submission should be in the neighborhood of 8 total pages.
1. Do tribes possess a nation-to-nation political relationship with the federal government, or are they merely another “minority,” defined as ethnic groups?
2. Are tribes “domestic, dependent nations,” or are they “distinct, independent, political communities,” as Chief Justice John Marshall defined them in 1831 and 1832, respectively?
3. Does Congress have only those powers over tribes that tribes have granted, or is congressional authority over tribes complete and unhindered, what some scholars term “plenary?”
4. While the canon of liberal construction for tribes is supported in cases such as Worcester v. Georgia, 1832, The Kansas Indians (1866) and United States v. Winans, 1905, it has been ignored or shunted aside in other cases. Explain this.
How have Chicana/o people been formed as racial subjects throughout the 20th and 21th Century, and how have they challenged and resisted these ideological discourses and legal barriers?
Your final is in two parts: 1) a chart and 2) a final essay. Both parts are to be uploaded as one
document with each part labeled and exported as a PDF.
Instructions: Put your name, date, Student ID #, Section # and name of your TA, and prompt
number in the header of the document. Respond to the prompt and follow these directions
carefully. Save as a vertical file and paginate the document. Respond to the prompt and follow
these directions carefully.
This is a take home exam. You may collaborate with others and seek out feedback, but you may
not submit identical chart. Each person’s example will be unique to their analysis, as will their
key quote. There are dozens of examples you could choose from, so be sure your work is your
own.
Part 1: CLI Chart (12.5 points)
A) a detailed CHI chart in which you specifically name the relevant forms of Capital (economic
goods/conditions), Law (legislation, enforcement, etc.), and Ideology (ideas/language/images)
that were used to racialize the Chicana/o/x subject in the 20th and 21st century. Each column
should contain a minimum of four full citation in each column.
Part 2-Final Essay (12.5 points)
The final consists of one 4-to-5-page paper re-using and expanding directly from your CLI
Chart in part one of the exam. The goal is to utilize more sources and expand your analysis into a
more formal essay structure. The paper must use quotations from, and properly cite, the
corresponding readings with page numbers.
The essay must therefore consist of an introductory paragraph with a clear and concise thesis
statement, a minimum of three body paragraphs utilizing at least six quotations total, and a
conclusion paragraph. Use at least four of the following readings: Pagan, Salt of the Earth,
Chacon & Davis (with a maximum of 2 readings) Haney Lopez, Rodriguez, and
Huntington. You may also use, Zinn and Harris, but are not required. Use spell check and edit
for grammar as they will count in the grading of your paper.
The final is to be uploaded to Canvas no later than 11:59pm on, March 20, 2023. Your paper
should be uploaded as a Microsoft Word Document or PDF and submitted in the Canvas
Assignment Portal (Pages files won’t be accepted).
The paper will engage deeply with the second half of the course readings to develop and support
your thesis. Outside sources will not be accepted for this paper. All sources must be
included in the Works Cited page.
A complete exam will meet the following requirements:
• The paper will be concise and thoughtful. It will have a solid thesis with thoughtful
analysis and proper citation of sources and a Works Cited page that follows MLA
format.
• The paper should be no longer than the page limit, excluding your Works Cited.
• The paper will be double-spaced, 12-point font, Times New Roman (1″ margins).
• Plagiarism will not be tolerated. Students will be referred to Student Judicial Affairs
(http://sja.ucdavis.edu/files/cac.pdf).
PROMPT:
In this course we have examined the formation and development of Chicanas/os and Mexican
origin people historically, socially, politically, and economically by generally asking the
question:
How have Chicana/o people been formed as racial subjects throughout the
20th and 21th Century, and how have they challenged and resisted these ideological discourses
and legal barriers?
For this essay, you will narrate the development of the Chicana/o subject in a 4–5-page
essay addressing the historical interactions between Capital, Law, & Ideology. Choose one of
the two following prompts to answer.
1. How did the farmworkers movement, the education walkouts, and the movement
trials challenge the construction of the Chicana/o subject? How did Capital/Law/Ideology
produce this racial subject prior to 1960 (for example: the Braceros) and how have Chicana/os
put forward a new politicized identity.
2. Provide a historical account of the construction of a Chicana/o criminal subject throughout the
20th Century, focusing on zoot suiters, student protestors, strikers and immigrants/border
crossers. How did each of these racial subjects threaten the interests of capital and/or Anglo
society? What discourses circulated about them, and what forms of policing and violence did
they contend with?
Mental Helath In the Media
Find two fictional media examples which contain mental health representation (the mental health does not need to be the center of the example, but it should not be a passing mention. Find something that explores the mental illness in at least some level of depth). The other should include a good representation of a different illness (to clarify: two representations of two different disorders)
1. A thorough description of the media chosen. explain it thoroughly enough that someone who has not experienced the media would be able to follow along
2. A thorough description of the illnesses represented (diagnostic criteria, prevalence, concerns, theories, etc.) Get into the literature and learn more about the chosen illnesses/disorders/conditions.
3. A thorough description of the typical treatments used for the represented disorders.
4. A comparison of the illness to the way in the media. Include all aspects represented (i.e., diagnostic criteria, symptoms, theories, treatment, etc.).
5. A comparison of the two pieces of media to each other in terms of how they represent mental illness.
6. A discussion of the stigma/outcomes that can/have come from this type of representation. Find evidence to support your argument.
As an integration, this paper should draw on a variety of sources, including at least 5 scientific articles.

Hong Kong Government’s building plan
Hong Kong Government has plans to build more homes for the people of Hong Kong. Several proposals have
been put forward to review their possibilities of implementation. Out of many proposals, the two preferred
proposals are (1) to build homes on top of the current Kwai Chung Container Terminal area and (2) to reclaim
the Plover Cove reservoir in the New Territories. With these two proposals to be considered, there will certainly
be consequences to it. In view of the consequences, answer the following questions:
(a) Discuss two major types of damage to the environment and two major advantages under each of the above
proposal.
(b) Owing to engineer’s social sustainability responsibility, out of the two proposals which one would you
choose and explain why?

a. Item for which I would wish
b. First reason to wish for item
c. Second reason to wish for item
d. Third reason to wish for item
e. How these reasons encourage me to wish for this item
This is by no means a requirement. You may add more paragraphs or organize them around a different method, and I encourage you to do so. This is the minimum breakdown for the theme. In a minimum of 600 words, address the following question:

Literature Review and Reflection: The developments in role of imaging in guiding therapy and management.
Task, rationale and marking criteria in the PDF attached.
This subject is “Imaging Pathology”. My course is ‘Biomedical Radiation Science’, just a fancy way of saying Radiography so I assume selecting ‘Medicine and Health’ is appropriate?
The task includes a 3500 word literature review and a 500-1000 word reflection.
I don’t mind which pathology you choose: melanoma, gastrointestinal neuroendocrine tumour, pancreatic endocrine tumours, merkel cell carcinoma, neuroblastoma, Ewing’s sarcoma, osteosarcoma or renal cell carcinoma, feel free to pick which ever you like.
This lecturer is pretty strict on word counts, she won’t read anything past the maximum word count unfortunately.
She asks for about 15-30 references, must be from within 10 years and Australian.
They use Turnitin for originality scores/plagiarism checks.
Hope this helps, it’s due on the 28th of September. But getting it sooner just in case is ideal.
This is the first time I’m doing something like this, usually I would do it myself but this year has been hectic – I gotta take care of my mum going through breast cancer and chemotherapy at the moment and continue work for an income to help us, so no time to sit down a thoroughly study. So please, feel free to email me if you have any questions or need help with anything!
Thank you so much!
Kind regards,
Gerome.
