Assignment 2
Reflection Papers (1): Defining, measuring, conceptualizing public Health, 10 Points. Length:
2-3 pages. Research what causes a disease or injury, or what factors make it more likely to
happen (even if they don’t cause it), and explain how those causes and risk factors operate for
individuals, families, communities and the society at large.
Your Task: Chose a disease or an injury or a condition. Follow “The P.E.R.I.E. Approach”
(evidence-based public health process) in chapter 2 as a model to provide research data for your
chosen issue.
20
For example: What is the issue? Asthma!
Topic: Asthma
Problem:
Why is Asthma an issue of concern or a problem in your family, community, or city? Let’s
examine how the student’s work below revealed the issue or problem.
“Asthma is a common, chronic respiratory disease that, when unmanaged, can affect a
child’s quality of life or cause death. About 160 asthma related deaths were recorded in the
Bronx between 2008 and 2010 (DHMH, 2014). Also, over 16,500 Bronx children between 5 –
11 years old went to the emergency room because of asthma from 2009 to 2011 (DHMH,
2013). Asthma is a growing challenge, under-diagnosed and under-treated, creating a substantial
burden to individuals and families and possibly restricting individuals’ activities for a
lifetime (U.S. Department of Health & Human Services). On average, in a classroom of 30
children, about 3 are likely to have asthma. Low-income populations, minorities, and children
living in inner cities like the Bronx experience more emergency department visit,
hospitalizations, and deaths due to asthma than the general population (Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention). Compared with general population, African American and Puerto Rican
populations are more likely to have asthma, to experience greater asthma severity, and to have
higher-than-average rates of hospitalization, emergency room visits, and deaths due to asthma
(NHLBI, 2014). Recurrent asthma symptoms frequently cause sleeplessness, daytime fatigue,
reduced activity levels, school and work absenteeism (CDC, 2013). Whether mild or life
threatening, asthma not only interferes with sleeping, but disrupt daily living.”

Economic Impacts of Possible Policies toward Electric Cars
ISSUE
The electric car has grown in popularity around the world to the extent that many believe that governments should be doing more to promote the electric car industry. On the other hand, some people are opposed to government intervention and are concerned about market efficiency.
PROBLEM
To what extent should the government intervene in an industry that has external costs and benefits? How does a government weigh the economic versus the other impacts of intervening in the electric car industry? What are the short-run and long-run implications of intervening, or not intervening?
YOUR TASK
You are part of an economic advisory panel that is convening to advise the government on what steps to take regarding the electric car industry. Your group is to focus exclusively on the economic impacts of this issue as there are other groups advising the government on political, legal, and social issues. Your group should address the trade-offs associated with government intervention in the electric car industry in terms of externalities and market efficiency. What policies, if any, should be implemented? What are the effects on the labor market? Government revenues that rely on taxes associated with fuel sales? Be as thorough as you can, and be specific with respect to the kinds of costs and benefits of your proposals.
Please write an essay to present an economic analysis addressing the described task.

Read the article and then write a summary identifying the type of research conducted, how you know the researchers used a qualitative method, the process they used to conduct the research, and the outcomes of the study. Attach the article to the assignment.
Criminal Justice Administrative Report
Write an Administrative Report using the two videos posted below, as well as the Michigan State University Use of Force Policy that you analyzed in Admin Rept #1.
The ONLY source that can be used and cited for this report is the Michigan State University Use of Force Policy, but you can of course also mention details from the videos but when it comes to inserting direct quaotionsand other stuff, only refer to the MSU Use of Force Policy.
Use the Administrative Report Form template that is uploaded.
2-3 single spaced pages not including the header; Times New Roman; 12 point font; one inch margins.
The report should address the incidents depicted in both videos and include the following (COPY AND PASTE THESE LINKS INTO YOUR WEB BROWSER):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwonyHu3evQhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwonyHu3evQhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwonyHu3evQ
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4dNFxconYwhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4dNFxconYwhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4dNFxconYw
INTRODUCTION:
An introductory paragraph that explains what your report is about. You should explain that in your report you are going to be reviewing two use of force scenarios that occurred in a correctional setting, and by using the MSU Police Department’s Use of Force Policy, you are going to be determining whether or not the force used was within the policy or in violation of that policy. You should also explain that in your report you will also be analyzing the tactics that were used, as well as providing any recommendations that you might have in terms of disciplinary actions, if appropriate.
DISCUSSION:
Write a summary of what happened in the scenario that took place in the holding cell. Include sufficient details such that a neutral reader/reviewer who was not there will understand what happened. After you have explained what happened in the scenario, address each of the following bullet points:
– Using the MSU Police Department’s use of Force Policy that you read, explain whether or not you believe the force used was within that policy or if it was a violation of that policy. You must use at least one direct quote from that policy to support your conclusion. That direct quote should be in quotation marks. The quote should be cited using APA formatting as follows: (MSU PD; 2017: para#)
– Engage in an analysis of this incident. Consider the tactics used in light of the guidelines spelled out in the use of force policy and explain what if anything you would recommend the officers have done differently or in addition to the response they took.
Here are some things to think about as you write your analysis: Were the tactics used reasonable, or could the officers have done a better job? If this “fight” was in-fact a ruse to trick the corrections officers into coming into the cell and then overpower them, were the tactics used and numbers involved such that if this was a trap, could it have been defeated? Was the entry coordinated and in some form of reasonable order, or was it disorganized? Did the officers take quick control of the situation as they entered? Did they address the other inmates, get them under control, get them separated from the combatants and out of the situation effectively? Was one person in charge and coordinating the incident response, or was it uncoordinated? Were verbal commands clear and understandable or contradictory and confusing? Was one person giving the verbal commands, or were several people giving verbal commands and possibly contradicting one another? You do not need to cover all of these points – these are listed to assist you as you attempt analyze this incident.
Remember, just because the force in an incident may have been within policy, it does not mean we cannot de-brief, critique, and analyze the response to determine what went right, what went wrong, and what could have been done more effectively.
– If you concluded the force was a violation of policy, what would you have done had you been one of the officers present?
– If you determined the force used was a violation of policy, what corrective or disciplinary action would you recommend for the officer(s) who violated the policy?
After completing your summary and analysis of the force used in the video of the holding cell, write a summary of what happened in the scenario that took place in the intake area of the correctional facility in the second video and then address each of the following bullet points: ( Again, include sufficient details in your description of the incident such that a neutral reader/reviewer who was not there will understand what happened.)
– Using the MSU Police Department’s use of Force Policy, explain whether or not you believe the force used was within that policy or if it was a violation of that policy. You must use at least one direct quote from that policy to support your conclusion. The direct quote must be in quotation marks. The quote should be cited using APA formatting as follows: (MSU PD; 2017: para#)
– Engage in an analysis of this incident.
Here are some things to think about as you write your analysis: Think about the original officer’s initial interaction and demeanor with the prisoner as he confronted him at the patrol car – was there any effort to de-escalate or establish a line of communication or establish rapport that may have resulted in cooperation? The prisoner was clearly under the influence of pepper spray – no first aid was given in the field before he was transported to the jail – was there any effort to address this right up front and if that tactic was chosen could there have been a different outcome to this incident? Was the restraint chair needed and/or justified? Did the officers work together or against one another as they attempted to restrain the prisoner? Did anyone take charge, or were they working in an uncoordinated manner? Did they appear they knew what they were doing? What does the force used tell you about the officer who used it? What does the fact that no one intervened tell you about the other officers? What does it tell you that there were other officers standing around with their hands in their pockets as if nothing unusual was happening? What does this incident and the officers’ actions/inactions tell you about this organization’s culture? Would you expect based on how these officers behaved that this type of force is ignored and could be a common practice in this institution? What does the fact that a sergeant was filming this incident and did not take control or intervene tell you about supervision and management in this organization? What if anything can you conclude about the morals, ethics, and integrity or lack thereof of the officer who used the force? The other officers? The organization in general? Again, you do not need to cover all of these points – these are listed to assist you as you attempt analyze this incident.
– If you concluded the force was a violation of policy, what would you have done had you been one of the officers present?
– If you determined the force used was a violation of policy, what corrective or disciplinary action would you recommend for the officer(s) who violated the policy?
SUMMARY:
A closing paragraph summarizing your report. Briefly review what you wrote about. The summary should briefly reinforce the major points of your report. For example, remind your reader that you reviewed two videos involving use of force in correctional facilities, and determined whether or not that force was within policy or a violation of policy using the MSU Police Department’s Use of Force Policy. Indicate you analyzed the tactics used and made some recommendations based on your knowledge and understanding. Remind your reader what your major points were. The summary paragraph should close with an explanation of what you learned from this case study; be specific and include sufficient detail so your reader understands exactly what you took away from this experience.

Read:
Part 3 of the LinkedIn Project is an opportunity for you to dream as you think about what your LinkedIn profile will look like in the future 10-15 years after graduation. It should show thought and planning for what you want to accomplish in the future and include more than what you are currently doing. Use everything you have learned in this course to inform your choices in this assignment. DO NOT just include what you are currently doing. You must show plans for what you plan do to in the future. DO NOT put this information online. Create your mock profile in a WORD Document or something similar and convert to PDF to upload.
When coming up with ideas for goals use insights gleaned from viewing other LinkedIn profiles, reading the discussion board articles, the NACE report, the LinkedIn Job Hunting Handbook, and other resources you viewed in the class.
Consider adding graduate school, internships, jobs, certifications, personal projects, and volunteer ventures. You could also talk with some of your professors and see what advice they have about what goals you could set.
Do:
Pretend it is 10-15 years after you have graduated. What does your LinkedIn page look like now?
Based on the profiles you viewed in Part 2 of this assignment and the readings done in this class, draft what your LinkedIn profile should look like 10-15 years after graduation. Create this in a WORD document or something similar and convert to a PDF to upload. Be as specific as you can and be realistic about what will benefit your future. Mid-Term Assignment
The organization I am working at is the Bronx Academy for Multimedia (BAMM). It is a middle school in the Bronx. The middle school is at stage 5. Stage 5 is reinventing and renewing.
Mid-Term Assignment
Organizational Life-Cycle and Capacity Profile
The organizational life cycle stage and capacity of a non-profit social service agency significantly impacts how it delivers services to its clients. As such, advanced generalist practitioners must be able to identify, as well as analyze, the organizational life cycle stage and capacity of any given non-profit social service agency. This assignment requires you to develop an organizational life cycle stage and capacity profile of your fieldwork placement agency. In identifying the life cycle stage, please use any one of the life cycle stage models that were presented in the class readings. In analyzing your agency’s capacity, please use the (1) McKinsey model available at https://www.mindtools.com/pages/article/newSTR_91.htm
or the (2) Simon model available in the following required text: Simon, J. (2004). The five life stages of nonprofit organizations. St. Paul, MN: Amherst Wilder Foundation.
This assignment provides opportunities to apply knowledge about the McKinsey and Simon theoretical approaches so that you will be able to learn how to perform an organizational life cycle and capacity profile. Your work will be expected to reflect your ability to model administrative decision-making that is based on social work values and ethics.
This profile, which will be a minimum of five pages excluding cover and reference page, should provide the following information in narrative form:
A desсrіption of the agency that includes a brief history, mission statement, clients served, funding sources and organizational chart (If you can obtain a copy of your agency’s organizational chart, please attach it to your paper).
A desсrіption of the organization’s current life cycle stage (Simon Model: please include examples to support your choice).
A desсrіption of your agency’s effectiveness/ ineffectiveness across the seven areas of capacity (aspirations, strategy, organizational skills, human resources, systems and infrastructure, organizational structure, culture): the McKinsey model.
A desсrіption of what you learned about your agency’s life cycle stage and capacity that can help you with development of your administrative practice and will be consistent
with social work ethics.
Your paper should be double-spaced, in 12-point type, with one-inch margins on each side. Use APA format for citations, which will be placed on a separate references cited page at the end of your paper. Grading will include my assessment of how well you have addressed the directives of the assignment, and the clarity of your writing, which includes adherence to APA 7th edition guidelines for in-text and reference page citations. This assignment is worth 30% of your grade.
Grading will be based on my assessment of the following: (a) how well you addressed the directives of the assignment; (b) how well you integrated the class readings into your paper; (c) clarity of your writing; (d) adherence to APA7th edition format for citations and reference page.
