Immigration

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the
student will be presented with questions in Discussions. The student is
required to answer the question in each Discussion with at least 1 citation of a scholarly peer reviewed article in
current APA format. Each Discussion thread must be at least 300 words.

***Respond to the charge that immigrants flood the labor market and drive down wages in the U.S.***
***References must be a citation of a scholarly peer reviewed article only.***

Additional information:

“When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the LORD your God” (Leviticus 19:3334, NIV).
“There is no evidence that over time, immigrants reduced wages, lowered the living standards of the resident population or raised unemployment rates.” John Stapleford, Bulls, Bears, and Golden Calves. IVP Academic (p. 227)

Staffing and Recruitment

Summarize chapter 4, 5 and 6 at the end of each chapter. Then (1) the student assigned a given chapter will prepare a series of Summaries, similar to the ones in the text, for each chapter assigned, but in the students own words. After preparing the Summaries in his or her own words, the student will prepare yet another series of paragraphs (2) following the sequence in the Summaries (in his own words) with some of the key terms and concepts missing in blanks, similar to a fill-in-the-blanks test. The answers for each section are then provided in a list at the end of each chapter. (See example below from a class on Leadership.)
Deliverable: – The deliverable will be a Programmed Instructional Document that covers, in summary form, the highlights and important aspects of the whole course. Answers to each blank line are to be provided numerically at the end of each Chapter Summary. Each student is expected to share in an equal part of the presentation. On the average, this is about two pages of work per student; i.e., 300 words per chapter.
Example(s) of this document appear below in italics. They were prepared by students in a previous class in Leadership.

Chapter 9
Two common forms of leadership are assigned and emergent. Assigned leadership is based on a formal title or position in an organization. Emergent leadership result from what one does and how one acquires support from followers. Leadership, as a process, applies to individuals in both assigned roles and emergent roles.
A leader may be (1)___________ by an organization or other people in power in an organization. Sometimes a leader needs to rise to the occasion and provides direction when a group of individuals, known as (2) ____________, come to believe that there is one among them that is capable and can envision and communicate the action what is needed. A person then might find him/herself in a leadership role as a result of the credibility established by acquiring (3)__________ from those in the group. This type of leadership formation is commonly known as (4) ____________. In either case where one becomes a leader, one must understand that (5)__________ is a process.
1) assigned
2) followers
3) support
4) emergent
5) leadership
Chapter 10
Servant leadership focuses on the behaviors leaders should exhibit to put followers first and to support followers personal development. Servant leadership works best when leaders are altruistic, have a strong motivation, and deep-seated interest in helping others. Servant leadership argues unabashedly that leaders should put followers first, share control with followers, and embrace their growth. To give up control rather than seek control is the goal of servant leadership. Because the name appears to contradictory, servant leadership is prone to be perceived as fanciful or whimsical. Servant leadership can be applied at all levels of management and in all types of organizations.
To 1_______ followers personal development and to put followers 2_______ should be the behaviors leaders focus on in servant leadership. Having a deep-seated interest in 3______ others, having strong 4__________, and being 5________ works best for leaders in servant leadership. Embracing followers 6________, sharing 7___________ with followers, and putting followers 8________ is what servant leadership unabashedly argues. Servant leadership goal is to give up 9________ rather than seek 10_________. 11________ or 12________ is what servant leadership is prone to be perceived as because the name appears to be contradictory. All types of 13__________ and all levels of 14______________ servant leadership can be applied to.

2. First
3. Helping
4. Motivation
5. Altruistic
6. Growth
7. Control

Applied Behavior Analysis – Discussion PS564

Applying research to practice and developing the skills to synthesize the two are important for a behavior analyst. For this Discussion, you are going to evaluate one of the articles presented in this weeks readings (ATTACHED) as the information applies to providing consultation services within a given environment. Using all of the information presented throughout the term and the text chapters outlined in this units readings, you will critically evaluate the practices described, as well as discuss any additional suggestions that you have for supporting the clients identified within the setting. Consider how you might provide consultation to the families or individuals to achieve and maintain desired target behavior. Be sure to identify which article you are reviewing at the start of your posting and provide scholarly references to support your considerations.

BELOW FIND AN EXAMPLE RESPONSE TO THE DISCUSSION PROMPT ABOVE; USE IT TO GAIN INFO AND FORMAT, BUT NOT TO COPY DIRECTLY:

For this weeks discussion post, I am evaluating the methods used in the study conducted by Burckley et al. (2014) titled An iPad-based picture and video activity schedule increases community shopping skills of a young adult with autism spectrum disorder and intellectual disability. The study was designed to evaluate the effectiveness of a teaching procedure that used picture and videos to teach shopping to an 18-year-old female diagnosed with pervasive development disorder.
The procedures used included a preference assessment, determining a baseline, implementing the iPad-based intervention, and including measures to ensure maintenance and generalization of effects. In terms of a target behavior, shopping skills is socially valid as it is required for independent functioning especially for young adults. The use of a preference assessment to select the most effective reinforcement was correctly implemented. Specifically, researchers were able to implement a multiple stimulus without replacement preference assessment. Determining a baseline is important before setting a treatment goal. Without a baseline, it is not possible to accurately observe change in behavior. The researchers determined a baseline before implementing an intervention. The results of the intervention can be compared to the baseline and the effectiveness of the intervention can be measured.
Although an intervention may be effective in a treatment setting when specific prompts are available, it is difficult to reliably state how well the effects of a specific intervention will generalize to other environments (Cooper et al,. 2020). Burckley et al. (2014), included a probe to measure the generality and response maintenance of the iPad-based intervention. They observed the subject of the study shopping for the two items that was taught during the intervention without the iPad software.
The procedures implemented are consistent with the procedures that a BCBA must know how to implement. The BACB 5th edition task list specifically lists
F03 Identify and prioritize socially significant behavior goals
F05 Conduct preference assessments
G01- Use positive and negative reinforcement to strengthen behaviors.
G21- Use procedures to promote stimulus and response generalization
G22- Use procedures to promote maintenance
Although procedures were effectively implemented, a few considerations that need to be taken are that an individuals preferences may change overtime based on motivating operations therefore preference assessments should be conducted more frequently. In terms of providing family consultations regarding increasing shopping skills, I would stress the importance of continuing interventions in environments other than the treatment setting in order to achieve generality and response maintenance. If the intervention is only implemented in a clinical or treatment setting it is difficult for the effects of the intervention to generalize to the clients natural settings where they are most beneficial.

Citations
Use APA 7 format to properly cite all online,
print, and graphics resources, which should be from a minimum of 8 reputable
sources (i.e. not Wikipediause it as a starting point and go search the
citations at the bottom). This includes IN-TEXT CITATIONS, and at the end, an APA WORKS CITED in
alphabetical order with a hanging indent

Please use the following checklist to ensure your paper is
in top form and ready to earn maximim points when you submit it:

I followed the APA template provided, including cover sheet,
section headings, double-spaced, Times New Roman, 12-point font. I will do this
so that Claire/Teaching Assistant don’t have to hunt for my data, but can
easily find it under the section headings.
I used a minimum of 8
credible sources, not Wikipedia.
I created my own
work. I have not let anyone else write it for me. I will not pass of another’s
work off as my own.
There are no
word-for-word copy & pastes or ‘token word swaps’ in my paper that will
show up in my report. I used the draft submission area to identify and
correctly synthesize any wording that was too close to the original source into
my own words.
I have used
quotations sparingly, only when it the piece of information was so profound
[well said], so specific, that I couldn’t say it better myself. Then I cited
it.
Every piece of data
in my paper is in-text cited to the source, and then included in an
ALPHABETICAL works cited in APA format. For example:
Romancia is one of Middle West’s most important
economic centers due to the abundance of chocolate rivers that flow through the
center of country. Beginning in 1912, the country has been exporting natural
spring chocolate and other chocolate products around the world. Prior to the
discovery of liquid chocolate, the major industries in the country were
confined to candy cane mining and marshmallow growing (Depp, 2016).

My in-text citations are before the period at the end of the
sentence (see above).
All of my sections/paragraphs
end with at least one in-text citation. I know that if I use the same source in
one section continuing into the next, I still have to in-text cite it again in
each new section, otherwise it looks like I forgot to cite an area of my paper.
Every piece of data in every paragraph has a citation to cover the data.

I have scanned
through my entire paper, and there are no gaps in my in-text citations. Every
paragraph, every section, has ample citations. The instructor will not wonder
where I got my information from. It will not appear that I am claiming I came
up with this information up myself.
I did not use the
I/You/Me/We tenses until that very last section where my opinion is asked for.
I know that doing this will make my paper sound informal, like I am giving
travel advice/blogging, not the formal, academic research paper that it is
intended to be. (use the ‘command f’ [Mac] or Home/Editing/Replace
[Windows] to do a ‘search in document’ to find and replace these easily)
I avoided using contractions
in my paper (it’s, don’t, couldn’t) because it makes my paper sound too
informal. (use the ‘command f’ [Mac] or Home/Editing/Replace [Windows] to
do a ‘search in document’ to find and replace these easily)
I left my personal
opinion out of the research paper, and let the data speak for itself, until the
last section.
I did not make any
errors in tensing. For example, I referred to a country as an ‘it’ and citizens
of that country as ‘they.’ (use the ‘command f’ [Mac] or Home/Editing/Replace
[Windows] to do a ‘search in document’ to find and replace these easily)
I did not mistake
‘it’s’ (contraction for ‘it is’…don’t use contractions anyway) for ‘its’
(posessive) (use the ‘command f’ [Mac] or Home/Editing/Replace [Windows]
to do a ‘search in document’ to find and replace these easily)
I don’t have any
lonely little sentences hanging out by themselves (one sentence does not a
paragraph make!)
My works cited is in
APA format, including being entirely double-spaced with a hanging indent.
I have scanned my
work for typos the computer won’t catch. I have had someone proof-read for me
to catch what I am too close to see.
I have submitted my
paper twice so that the first time I can scan my own academic integrity report
AND ensure that I have resolved any questionable areas of my paper before final
submission.

If you take some time to use this checklist, you can avoid
seeing these as feedback in your paper when graded.

Discuss if the instrument is appropriate for diagnosing the condition it is designed to assess, or if the instruments developers report that the instrument is only part of a comprehensive assessment for the condition.

As you have learned from several of your readings, diagnosis of a variety of psychiatric illnesses is not always an easy or straightforward process. Multiple observations and assessment methods are often employed to reach a diagnosis. This approach can include the use of standardized assessment instruments.
Each week, you will be tasked with identifying a standardized assessment instrument to measure at least one of the disorders you will read about. You identify an instrument and:
Identify a scholarly, peer reviewed article that addresses the use of the instrument.
Discuss if the instrument is appropriate for diagnosing the condition it is designed to assess, or if the instruments developers report that the instrument is only part of a comprehensive assessment for the condition.
Describe whether or not the instrument can be used to measure patient response to therapy/treatment.
Discuss the psychometrics of the instrument including reliability and validity.
Discuss any limitations associated with the use of the instrument
For week six, you will identify three (3) different assessment instruments- one that can be used in the assessment/diagnosis of a personality disorders, one that can be used in the assessment/diagnosis of a sexual dysfunction,, one that can be used in the assessment/diagnosis of either gender dysphoria, or a paraphilic disorder.

Self-Assessment and Reflection

As you prepare for the final exam, create TWO multiple-choice questions for your classmates that focus on material that was covered in this course. Make sure that you provide the answer, preferably as a response to your own post, so your peers can be challenged without directly seeing the answer right after the question.
As a follow up, reflect on any goals that you set for yourself at the beginning of this course. What experiences have you gained from this course that you will take forward into Human Anatomy and Physiology II?
Please make your initial post by midweek, and respond to at least one other student’s post by the end of the week. Please check the Course Calendar for specific due dates.
