Live play critique

It must be a LIVE show with an audience. You cannot watch Sweeney Todd with Johnny Depp or the movie version of Rent or Phantom. It cannot be a concert. You must go to You Tube or BraodwayHD and find a live play or musical.

Muchmore information is needed when discussing the acting
More information from the play. More on the visuals.

This rubric is to be used when writing a critique of a live play on video. The student must see the entire play.
As to format, each paper should be typed, double-spaced and two full pages in length. No additional research is necessary. The first paragraph should include the title of the play, the date the play was seen, the location of the play and the names of the director and the designers. All names, including the name of the play, should be accurate and spelled correctly.
The short synopsis of the plot should be discussed in the second paragraph of the paper. This, as in all other parts of the paper, should be in the student’s own words and not borrowed from any other source, including the play’s program.
The remainder of the paper should include critiques on five actors , including their character name and real name, with detailed examples from the play. This discussion should be specific, using moments from the play to support your personal opinions. For example, instead of saying, “I didn’t like John Smith who played Matt Jones’, it would be better to say “I didn’t like John Smith who played Matt Jones because he looked like he was acting all the time and I didn’t believe him, especially in the scene by the river.”
The paper should also include comments regarding the play’s technical elements: the set, lighting, costumes and music. Again, comments should be specific to the play and not generalized. As an example, in discussing the lighting, instead of saying, “I didn’t like the lighting because it was too dark”, one might say, “ I couldn’t see faces well in the scene that took place in the café, especially in the characters on the sides of the stage”.
This paper is worth 100 points. Weak sentence structure, misspelled words, a paper length under 2 full pages or over 3 pages, omission of the paper’s content requirements, unsupported or vague comments, or late submission of the paper will result in less points earned.
BE as detailed as you can when writing your opinion on the acting and the visual elements, sound and music.

Examine the Compiled Class Data. Make decisions on whether there are any outliers you should omit from your analysis.

1. Examine the Compiled
Class Data. Make decisions on
whether there are any outliers you should omit from your analysis. I have highlighted in yellow two entries that
seem candidates for outliers to me, but there may be others. Sort the data by
tree species and then diameter (smallest to largest). Be extremely careful when sorting as it is
easy to scramble your data if you don’t select your data perfectly. Use the
sorted data to fill out the spreadsheet that counts the number of trees of each
species in various size-class categories (Size
Class Structure). Note that there is
a tab for each of the 4 species. While
you can do the counts manually, an easier way is to use the “countif” function
in excel to count the number of trees that fall between the endpoints of the
size class. Use the Data Analysis Toolpak in Excel (it’s a free option
installation if you don’t already have it) to produce summary statistics for
the diameters of each of the 4 tree species individually and display them in a
table that includes sample size, mean diameter at breast height (dbh), standard
deviation, and range (min-max) for each species. Create the table on a new tab in the Size
Class Structure spreadsheet. For each of the 4 tree species separately, use
Excel’s graphing capability to produce a diagram that reflects the number of
individual trees in each age class (you will have 4 diagrams when complete). Make these diagrams new tabs in your Size
Class Structure spreadsheet. Label them.

CMST 20 – Interpersonal Research Project
100 Points
Please select a television show or movie that you have watched and are familiar with, you should probably have watched at least one season of the television show. Your goal in this paper and presentation is to analyze and evaluate one or two interpersonal relationships depicted in the show or movie. You will incorporate a particular concept or set of concepts relevant to interpersonal communication, which you will then do further scholarly research on, to frame your analysis of the relationship(s) in the TV show or movie.
Secondary Option: If you do not want to choose a television show or movie to reflect on, you can choose any aspect of interpersonal communication to unpack.
Your final research paper will be 3-5 pages long, double space, typed in 12-point times new roman font, with 1-inch margins. You will write this paper in four stages. First your proposal, then your research brainstorm, next your annotated bibliography, and finally your paper and presentation of your research. Your presentation will be 3-4 minutes long. These are all worth points and missing one of these assignments will affect your grade.
The exact direction of your analysis is up to you. You must include at least one interpersonal concept or theory that you will research in greater depth and use that concept/theory to frame your analysis of the interpersonal interactions in the show/movie. Since you have to start this project before we have covered everything in class, I encourage you to explore various chapter(s) in the textbook and assigned readings ahead of time to get some ideas for your research.
In your analysis, you will need to provide specific examples from the show to illustrate your points. The examples from the show should be specific and provide sufficient detail to give credibility to the points of your argument. Although you will need to provide a brief synopsis of the show and describe the context for your examples, your goal is to analyze and evaluate interpersonal communication in the show/movie, not describe the storyline. You cannot, and should not, write about every aspect of the show.
Research Paper & Presentation Components
Part One: The Proposal, 5 points
The proposal is a brief summary of your intended research topic and your plan for completing it. You should include the following:
Identify the television show or movie you will be focusing on and the relationship you will be exploring further;
Identify at least two-course concepts that you might use and explain how they apply;
List two possible research questions that connect the relationship(s) to the concepts;
Describe how this research will contribute to our knowledge of interpersonal communication (i.e.: why is this research important/relevant/interesting/useful?);
Identify at least one scholarly article that you might use and briefly explain how it will support your own research
Part Two: The Research Storm, 5 points
The goal of this assignment is two-fold: 1) To refine your topic proposal into a clear rationale for your paper, and 2)to begin reading and organizing the existing scholarly research that will help you write your paper. This particular assignment should include an introduction for your paper, a mind map of your main points, you should create a list of 5 sources that you will be utilizing in this paper.
The Introduction is the first part of your paper, it should be about two paragraphs and should address the following:
Background. Think about what the reader needs to know to understand your research questions. Try to create reader interest in this topic and lay out a broad foundation for the problem that leads to this research paper analysis. Some of this may involve basic background of the show and characters but it won’t be super detailed because that will come later.
Problem/issue/question to be researched. Where is the gap in the understanding of this topic? Is this an understudied dynamic? Has this interpersonal theory been used to describe a relationship in media recently? Describe the context of the problem and the general approach for addressing this problem. Make sure the reader can easily identify the problem.
Purpose and goal of the study. This is essentially your thesis statement. What is the goal of your paper? What are you trying to get out of analyzing this relationship?
Identify important terms and concepts. Identify and define at least two terms, key concepts, or theories that will frame your analysis of this relationship.
Part Three: A Rough Draft, 10 points
As much of your paper should be turned in to be offered feedback.
Part Four: The Paper & Presentation, 80 points
This is due Monday, May 16th
Tip: Your presentation should be presented in a way that a person who has never watched the show and has not taken this class would understand.
Total points for the Team Presentation will be weighted as follows:
Paper and Analysis 60 points
Research questions
Resources provided
Presentation 20 points
Part One 5 points
Part Two 5 points
Part Three 10 points
Total 100 points

than more, than the sum of their parts. Why is this?

Imagine a local
company has contacted you regarding how they use and implement teams within the
workplace.

Include the topics
and models covered in the readings: crowding, evaluation apprehension, social
loafing, groupthink, group polarization, social pressure, and minority
influence.

Create a 10- to

company understand the various benefits and pitfalls of team- or group-based
work.

Address the
following in your presentation:

Discuss research findings on the
various dynamics of groups of people working together.
Each slide should list the model or

1. Think about the ethical theories and approaches in this section and the moral conflicts you have experienced in the past. Have you used one of these approaches to resolve a conflict? Which theory or approach have you used?
2. Has there ever been a time when you have experienced the dilemma of having to make a choice that you know will affect the well-being of another individual? Have you ever experienced moral suffering?
3. New nurses have not necessarily developed their own professional boundaries when they begin practice. They may violate a boundary without even knowing they crossed it (Maes, 2003). What signs might alert you to a potential professional boundary violation or crossing?
4. Think about the questions posed in this section in relation to the distribution of scarce healthcare resources using Rawls’s veil of ignorance. Then answer the same questions taking your own circumstances into account. Do you come up with the same answers to the questions? Explain your rationale.
