Making Arguments
You need not believe what you argue, but you must make your case persuasively. To argue effectively, you should keep several things in mind:
1) You must build your arguments on solid facts. You may be tempted to paraphrase your role sheets. But this lazy strategy will not work. Well-expressed opinions, if unsupported by fact, will not persuade. You must do research, often of an historical character, to support your opinions. [Note: everything that occurred in history prior to the beginning of the game can be cited in your speeches and papers; but you cannot cite events that occurred after the beginning of the game. For example, for the game on radical labor and woman suffrage in Greenwich Village in 1913, you cannot cite the Bolshevik victory in Russia in 1917.] Whether you will be obliged to footnote your “facts” depends on your instructor;
