Reflect on the Wk 5 Class Discussions – (Ethical Drift in Nursing.)

FIRST:

Read the following required articles from University Library:

“Ethical, Legal, and Social Issues in the Translation of Genomics into Health Care” (You may include the COVID19 vaccine perspectives when reviewing this article. Other related topics (except for cloning) would be acceptable, too. )
“Ethical Challenges in the Era of Health Care Reform” (Could include regulatory issues like organization reimbursement and staffing; use of agency or traveler staff; the role of the nurse; etc.)
“Moral Resilience: Managing and Preventing Moral Distress and Moral Residue”
“Social Media: Managing the Ethical Issues” (You may want to think about issues with electronic documentation, database sharing, confidentiality and privacy (no HIPAA focus, please.)
“Ethics: The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act: Ethical Perspectives in 21st Century Health Care”

SECOND:

Select ONE article and:

Review (briefly) and identify the selected article.
Identify the KEY ethical principle(s) involved in the article selected (Use Westrick Chapter 45 for a list of principles.)
Apply and integrate your perspectives about the ethical challenge, including your reflections regarding the discussions for week 5. You may consider how ethical decision-making models (like the Park Model or Lachman) could inform your thinking.
Recommend how nurses might address the challenge you’ve identified.

Cite at least 3 peer-reviewed sources published within the last 5 years that support your positions.

Format your assignment as one of the following:

18- to 20-slide presentation WITH SPEAKER NOTES FOR EACH SLIDE, or
Paper 1000 words, APA format

Include an APA-formatted reference list.

In patients with psychiatric diagnoses, does regular case management follow up upon discharge from inpatient psychiatric treatment decrease rapid readmission rates compared to those with no case management follow up upon discharge?

This assignment will require you to take the PICO, 5 research articles and place them in a table for analysis. You will critique each article and identify the most important parts of the research, analysis, and findings.

Then you will summarize the articles by grading the research, and identifying gaps in the literature as well as possible interventions (see grading rubric and examples).

*Once matrix is completed, create a powerpoint with voice over (approx 10 minutes in length) of findings. This should be a brief
presentation of the gaps you identified, research needs and what the next steps will be on this topic.

Instructions:
Identify your PICO or research question of interest
Gather 5 research articles on your topic: be sure to save them and submit them along with the matrix; please make sure they are PDF documents.
Do not use clinical guidelines or Cochran Reviews, abstracts, or poster presentations. You can search for research only by indicating “research” when you do an advanced search. If you can’t answer a lot of the questions, it is probably not a research article.
We do not recommend that you use more than one systematic review or meta analysis. These are harder to evaluate because they have so much more information in them. Remember it is not individuals in these studies- it is there articles. Use the articles to find individual studies that may be easier to understand and use.
Review sample matrices and summaries
Use matrix table- one for each article and critique the parts of the article using the rubric
Be sure to identify the evaluation tool used to grade the evidence such as (See below for grading the evidence tools)
Identify where there are issues with the articles and what gaps were not addressed with the research; be prepared this may change the way you look at your topic or may result in a slightly different direction for your area of interest. This is ok- that is what you want to accomplish with this assignment. It will really assist you as you move forward with your project.
For this assignment you will turn in the matrix tables, summary, references and pdf copies of your 5 articles.
Key definitions:
Level of evidence: the process used to evaluate the level of evidence of your articles- such as Jones Hopkins, Cincinnati Children’s evaluation etc,
Evaluation tool: use the method and describe how you arrived at the scoring or knowing that the article included all content it needed to- such as CASP;
Instrument: What type of instrument or tool was used in the article? This could be a depression screening tool, Nurse satisfaction tool etc. Describe the instrument- how many questions, reliability- consistency with test-retest, Cronbach Alpha, inter-rater reliablity; validity with content validity, face validity

Infinite Interconnectedness? Environmental Science

Naturalist John Muir (What is he famous for?) once said “When we try to pick out anything by itself we find that it is bound fast by a thousand invisible cords that cannot be broken.” (Journal entry on July 27, 1869).
What did Muir mean by this? Cite/specify two (2) specific examples from Chapter 3 (or any other chapter for that matter) to support your explanation of the concept of interconnectedness in the natural world. “Specific examples” means providing names of biota and/or ecosystems and specific ways in which they are interconnected.
Be sure to back up your explanations with some research before discussing this. Be sure to read relevant sections of your text (or other supplementary readings)

Describe a time that you became really angry with someone. Rather than just “telling” your classmates that you were really mad in this particular situation, “show” this emotion by being very descriptive.

Your initial post to each question should be no less than 50 words each. Remember to respond to two other classmates (no less than 40 words each), as this is a part of your grade.
1) Describe a time that you became really angry with someone. Rather than just “telling” your classmates that you were really mad in this particular situation, “show” this emotion by being very descriptive. No less than 30 sentences. Replies should be no less than 5 sentences each.
2) Where in “A & P” does the dramatic conflict become apparent? What moment in the story brings the crisis? What is the climax of the story?
3) How, if at all, does Sammy grow in the story?
4) Share your descriptive essay topic and the overall direction you want to take with the essay.

Was the change handled ethically? If not, how should they have handled it? If it was, what stands out as something to emulate in your future business

You have become a trusted resource for your organization, and they have asked for your advice on gaining a competitive advantage in the field. More specifically,
they would like your analysis and recommendations on ways to bring their company culture, demographics, and technologies up to current industry practices and
beyond.
Review the demographic and technological information about your company. If the information is not public, base your decisions on a similar company and
research. This information will assist you as you complete your Organizational Presentation in Step 2 of this assessment.
Outline the following information:
Demographics
• What are the current demographics? (e.g., age, gender, ethnicity, etc)
• What was a recent change?
• How did the company handle it?
• Was the change handled ethically? If not, how should they have handled it? If it was, what stands out as something to emulate in your future business
endeavors?
Technology
• How does the company utilize technology in day-to-day business?
• What types of technology are used?
• How does a change of technology affect the organization?
Complete the following in your presentation:
• Analyze the organization’s current culture (e.g., beliefs, expectations, values, and norms). Address how managers influence the organizational culture
• Evaluate the impact of demographic forces (e.g., age, ethnic origin, race, social class, gender, and sexual orientation) of your selected organization and
what it could be. Note: This is a good place to use your outline from Part 1.
• Examine the impact of technological forces (e.g., changes in the technology managers use to design, produce, or distribute goods and services) of your
selected company. Consider how this can contribute to innovation within the industry.
• Examine how the organization has complied with ethics and social responsibility behavior

Social Work Values

((1)) I have chosen (of the six)- Integrity,
Dignity and Human Worth of the Person, and Service. ((2)) I thought that
competence would be the most difficult to integrate into my professional self,
because of the energy and effort it takes to stay acquainted with research and
studies in order to help my future clients. It can be hard for some to not
become complacent.

Assignment
Specifics:
February
8th – Social Work Values – The core values of the social work profession are
Integrity, Social Justice, Dignity and Human Worth of the Person, Competence,
Service, Human Relationships. In three pages,

((1)) identify your understanding of at least three core values that
you think that you would be able to integrate into your professional social
work self with examples (e.g., I find that I gravitate towards
service/volunteer work).
((2)) Identify one core value that you might find more difficult to
integrate into your professional self and why. How does learning about the core
values of social work inform your future career and/or school interests?

Writing
Assignments/Presentation of Assignment:
Multiple
essays will be required during the course. Assignments are designed to
encourage students to critically think about the key ideas, concepts, and /or
theories we have covered. Typically, the essay questions can be answered
effectively in 2-3 pages in length, doubled spaced, with 1-inch margins.
Typeface should be no larger than size 12 Times New Roman font.

Week 4 Assignment – Research
Focus, Population of Interest, Sampling Structure, Hypotheses
Weight: 25% of Final Grade
Due: Week 4 Day 3 by 11:59 PM Eastern Time
Maximum Length: 3 pages

You must run all written
assignments through the Originality Check before submitting your final
assignment to the grade center. Your assignment will not be considered
“submitted” until it has first been run through the Originality Check.

Description

For your Research Focus, Population of Interest, Sampling
Structure, and Hypotheses assignment you will (1) Develop and clearly
articulate a targeted research question that you will attempt to answer in your
study, (2) identify the population of interest in your study and provide a
thoughtful rationale for the focus on this group, (3) describe the strategy you
will employ to find 3 individuals to pilot test your interview instrument
including a thoughtful analysis as to possible strengths and limitations of
your approach, and (4) develop three related research hypotheses, correctly
identifying the independent and dependent variables for each.

Note: If you wish to pilot or pre-test your instrument with
clients or staff in your agency or in another social work setting, you must
consult with your field supervisor or relevant staff person and obtain consent
of the agency.

If you cannot interview your targeted population, colleagues
may role-play the interviewees. Do not pilot test the instrument with close
friends or family members, as this will not approximate a typical interview situation
and will limit your ability to conduct a realistic face-to-face interview and
assess the interview process.

In this assignment you will further focus your research topic
from Assignment # 1 to identify a specific area and population of interest; develop
a research question and hypotheses to guide the remainder of your work in this
course. Based on your research topic and
the literature that you reviewed. Below are some questions that can help guide
you in brainstorming and thinking about a research question.

What is my area of
interest?
What is my population of
interest?
What are some of the
problems in this area that impact my population of interest?
What are patterns or
phenomena I see in this area?
What behaviors, attitudes,
beliefs, outcomes have I seen in this area for my population of interest?
What am I curious about in
this particular area and with this population?

From the ideas generated while brainstorming answers to
these questions, come up with a research question that is broad enough to cover
your three hypotheses and targeted enough to be meaningful. Note, it may be
helpful to develop your hypotheses first and then develop a research question
that can be an umbrella to cover all three of your hypotheses.

Developing your hypotheses. Remember that a hypothesis is a
statement of relationship between two things (we call these “things”
variables—or X and Y). Each hypothesis will have ONE independent variable (X)
and ONE dependent variable (Y).

The independent variable may have an impact/influence on the
dependent variable. The dependent variable may DEPEND on the independent
variable. For each pairing of an independent variable and dependent variable
there is one hypothesis written as a relationship between X and Y.

There is a
relationship between X and Y.
Children with more X have fewer instances of Y.
Elderly
with fewer Xs are less likely to Y.
Social
workers with X report better Y.
