What should you include or exclude (for example, would you keep the narrator’s repeated “slut-shaming”?)?
https://moodle.nsula.edu/mod/lti/view.php?id=1811603
Option 1–Jamaica Kincaid, Girl: In “Girl,” the narrator gives–seemingly unsolicited–advice to a young girl. This advice ranges from directives on how to carry out her daily tasks to moral/sexual propriety. Write a post that mimics this short story: what advice do you think would be more appropriate for a contemporary setting? How would this advice be different if the addressee was a boy and not a girl? In composing your own version of the story, keep in mind that you have the opportunity to critique the narrator’s choices: what is the most useful advice to give you a younger person? What should you include or exclude (for example, would you keep the narrator’s repeated “slut-shaming”?)? You can choose to write advice to a girl that you think is more appropriate and useful; you can also write advice to a boy that examines what advice given to boys vs. girls prioritizes. (NB: Even though the story divides female labor and function in society along fairly traditional gender roles, you’re not limited to binary constructions of gender)
Write an essay comparing and contrasting Tom and Gatsby from the book great Gatsby.
Write an essay comparing and contrasting Tom and Gatsby from the book great Gatsby.
Compare and contrast Gatsby and Tom. How are they alike? How are they different? Given the extremely negative light in which Tom is portrayed throughout the novel, why might Daisy choose to remain with him instead of leaving him for Gatsby?
I just need a five paragraph essay comparing and contrasting Tom and Gatsby from the book great Gatsby
What is the meaning and does it “crystallize” a particular event or social trend?
First, watch the TED talk by The New Yorker art director Francoise Mouly, and listen to what she says about the impact of visual images.
It is approximately 8 minutes long and found at: https://www.ted.com/talks/francoise_mouly_the_stories_behind_the_new_yorker_s_iconic_covers
First, in the video you watched for this module, Mouly says, “I’ve always been captivated by how an image can — a simple drawing — can cut through the torrent of images that we see every single day. How it can capture a moment, how it can crystallize a social trend or a complex event in a way that a lot of words wouldn’t be able to do — and reduce it to its essence and turn it into a cartoon.” Does a visual image really have that much of an impact? Do agree that it creates an impact that “words wouldn’t be able to do”?
Second, have fun analyzing a visual image of your choice. It can be a painting, cartoon, photograph, or even you’re an image you took on your own. Explain:
The title/author
Where the original is located (on the web or a physical location)?
Why did it stand out to you and why did you selected it for analysis?
What is the meaning and does it “crystallize” a particular event or social trend?
What does it do that words can’t? (You might even say that words would convey MORE meaning or it has no meaning without adding words.)

Does the delivery enhance or detract from the content?
In addition to enhancing basic skills of effective oral communication, this class is designed to develop your ability to evaluate public speeches critically. Listening critically to speeches from other sources should make you more aware of both the common problems faced by speakers and effective (or ineffective) ways of handling them.
You may critique a public speech (commencement address, keynote speaker etc.), a prepared lecture or sermon if you wish. Comments presented during the speech should later be organized in a logical, narrative report. Be sure to include the occasion, date, time and place or youtube link. An effective critique will examine elements of delivery and content, and their impact on each other and on the audience. Key questions are:
Does the delivery enhance or detract from the content?
Is the content appropriate for the situation and well handled by the speaker?
Be sure to describe what occurs throughout the speech and offer specific details to support your assessment.
The introduction should detail the specifics of the speaking situation: speaker, occasion/audience, topic, place, date and time. List any constraints or limitations that you see in the situation. Mention the room conditions, acoustics, microphone problems, audience attitude, and arrangement of the speaker’s area if possible. The nature of the introduction of the speaker must also be covered here:
Was it detailed in the speech?
Did it enhance the speaker’s ethos (positive character) and establish credentials?
Did it preview the body of the speech?
Did it gain attention?
The body of the paper should focus on the speaker’s logical presentation of content. You should note the basic message of the speech.
Was it well developed and logically presented?
Could you tell the form of outline?
What kind of support material was used?
What areas could have been improved?
What areas worked well or did not work well?
Was closure evident?
Did the audience know when the speech was over?
How effectively did the speaker use his/her/ voice and body?
How effectively did the speaker employ visual aids?
Did the speaker utilize language meaningfully?
Was there evidence that the speaker had analyzed the audience?
What was the total impression left by the speech?

Respond to 2 other students posts. Total of 3 posts. Please do your initial post early so others can respond. Must do all 3 posts by deadline to get credit, no partial credit AND have additional references(sources) in APA format at the end of your original post. Do not need references for your response posts but you can put them if you want to.

What other approaches might you take to convince your fellow citizens to restore this ecosystem?
Imagine you are trying to gain public support to preserve tallgrass prairie and oak savanna ecosystems in the upper Midwest.
There is very little native prairie remaining, but agricultural land can be restored to this ecosystem. However, agricultural land is also rapidly being sold for development (we see this happening right here in the Quad Cities).
What conservation strategies mentioned in Chapter 5 would you advocate for? What other approaches might you take to convince your fellow citizens to restore this ecosystem?
