Sociocultural ERQ – IB psychology

Sociocultural ERQ IB style. I need about 2-3 pages of writing, double spaced. Choose from one of the prompts and write about that. Follow thewriting tips about the prompts which includes using 2 studies and 1 idea in introduction, well-explained. A simple google search for psychology erqs and examples will give you a lot of good ones to look off of but please have this be below 5% similarity as ive had issues with plagiarism using writing services in the past. I have linked a sort of helper document with ideas and studies to use for different questions. i suggest usingg one of the top three prompts as their the easiest but feel free to use any.

Identify your main characters, real or conceptual. Make them the subjects of verbs.

Quick Tip: The Quickest Revision Strategy

Our advice about revision may seem overly detailed, but if you revise in steps, it’s not difficult to follow. The first step is the most important: as you draft, remember to forget these steps (except for this one about remembering). Your first job is to draft something to revise. You will never do that if you keep asking yourself whether you should have just used a verb or a noun. If you don’t have time to look at every sentence, start with passages where you found it hard to explain your ideas. When you struggle to write about confusing content, your sentences tend toward confusion as well.

For Clarity and Flow
To diagnose:

1. Highlight the first six or seven words in every sentence. Ignore short introductory phrases such as At first, For the most part, and so on.

2. Run your eye down the page, checking whether you highlighted a consistent set of related words. The words that begin a series of sentences need not be identical, but they should name people or concepts that your readers will see are clearly related. If not, revise.

3. Check the highlighted words in each sentence. They should include a subject that names a character and a verb that names an important action. If not, revise.

To revise:

1. Identify your main characters, real or conceptual. Make them the subjects of verbs.

2. Look for nouns ending in -tion, -ment, -ence, and so on. If they are the subjects of verbs, turn them into verbs.

3. Make sure that each sentence begins with familiar information, preferably a character you have mentioned before.

For Emphasis
To diagnose:

1. Underline the last five or six words in every sentence.

2. You should have underlined

• technical-sounding words that you are using for the first time

• the newest, most complex information

• information that is most emphatic

• concepts that the next several sentences will develop

3. If you do not see that information there, revise: put those words last in the sentence.

The Indigenous Family of North America

Pick any date from 1600 to 1800, subtract 60, and start with that date as the birth year of a 60-year-old Indigenous person living in the Northeast, Southeast, or Southwest. Tell your life story, making references to the most significant historical events decade-by-decade that occurred during that person’s lifetime. Explain the role of the family in the culture of the Indigenous tribe you choose, and the impact of historical events on that family. You may choose to be a male or female, but in the paper you must explain the role of both genders. Discuss the pressures and challenges your family faced in your lifetime, how you faced them, and what you thought about them.
Use one of the Columbia Guides to the American Indians as your source. These books provide excellent ethno-historical overviews for the three regions, as well as timelines and glosseries of terms and people. You will be graded on how well you make use of these sources.
Obviously, you cannot document in great detail the family culture and historical circumstances of every tribe, so build a narrative that tells what happened to a person of a tribe as best you can using the appropriate Columbia Guide to the American Indians. Provide page numbers for all information you find in these sources. Showing me (your reader) where you got your information is the very essence of scholarship, and you will be graded on your documentation. Document your sources using Chicago Style (Humanities) footnotes or MLA Style.
You do not have to do any research beyond the Columbia Guides, but you may do so, as long as you document your sources. Try to avoid sources that are written by amateur historians, and try to find sources written by professional historians or tribal historians. Such sources include the National Archives, National Park Service, etc. You will get more credit for using good sources from the Library webpage. You will find more sources on American Indians if you search the system for ASU, WCU, and UNCA, because both of those other schools have American Indian Studies programs. Do not use any juvenile sources, which simplify complex realities for the perspective of children and adolescents.

Linda Evan’s Discussion Post:

If a young child watches violence or is given toys that encourage violent behavior, it desensitizes the violence. The video shows the clown to be pushed and hit is teaching wrong behavior.
I do think that watching violent TV shows and games desensitizes the act. Young children may not realize that people can not come back after being shot. It is not a do-over.
I have not been around anyone that is violent behavior. However, my personal observation learning has been watching my parent’s behavior and interaction between them and how to treat a person you love. They were like the perfect parents, never argued in front of us kids, they laughed and treated each other with respect.
Conditioning reminds me of cults, brainwashing people to follow and do things just because they are told to; Jones town comes to mind. Some people may get aggressive if they want out or get frustrated in day-to-day life. or get tired of being told what to do.

Faith Malo’s Discussion Post:

Observational Learning

Observational learning is the concept of watching someone else’s actions and behavior, and later imitating what was seen. A part of how people learn is by viewing examples and copying them, just as such someone would do when trying to learn a new job or skill. This way of learning is accompanied by four steps: attention, retention, reproduction, and motivation, (Cherry 2021).

After viewing the video of the Bobo doll experiment, it was shown that a child copied a violent act to a doll, after being demonstrated by an adult. However there is an additional factor that impacts this theory. According to Cumberbatch (1990) children who were familiar with the doll were 5x less likely to become violent with it when compared to those who have never played with one before. (McLeod S. A. 2014) These results are interesting because it shows children did not imitate the negative behavior because of their preexisting knowledge of what to do and how to behave with it. This study exhibits that the background of someone’s involvement with a scenario effects whether or not one will copy actions through observational learning. Therefore, violence is more likely to be copied if there is no previous experience or interaction with the subject.

From my own experience of observational learning, I found myself watching what others were doing in a hospital waiting room, and copying them. I saw people go and drop off the paper they have received from the front desk and then go sit in a certain section of the hospital. I was unfamiliar with the process so I imitated what other people were doing around me.

While observational learning is imitation through modeling, operant conditioning is the reinforcement or punishment after a behavior, and classical conditioning involves an involuntary response to a stimulus. An aggressive behavior may result from conditioning if someone saw or experienced a positive outcome after watching a person act out. It may also stem from pairing a controlled stimulus to an unlearned response, creating a controlled response, (Bouton, M. E. 2022).

Generational differences with covid

The coronavirus pandemic has changed the way businesses operate and how people work and go about their everyday lives. It has also brought to light some deep divisions in our country, whether political divisions, divisions over vaccine mandates, and many others. Our ability to embrace and respect differing opinions and views has always been one of our country’s greatest strengths, but there seems to be a growing lack of respect for differing views that has led to an inability to find common ground for the greater good. As a young person entering their next phase of education and then ultimately the work world, what can your generation doto help foster a mutual respect again for differing points of view so common ground can be found to better address the pressing problems facing our country and the world?

This is for a scholarship application. It is from the perspective of me a liberal-ish but mainly neutral black 17 year old, the first in her family to even go to college and graduation high school top of her class. I am vaccinated but am not opposed to those who aren’t however feel they need to take the proper precautions to keep everyone safe. I feel the issues are rooted in upbringing and environment where people are scared to be vulnerable and admit they are wrong and in turn refuse to learn and fix it. (me, please feel free to ask any questions about my view, life, or future major)
