Introduction
Imagine you are a new writer for Harper’s. As a magazine, it is known for addressing the
concerns of mistreated workers, minorities, and other marginalized groups of people.
With news of activists shouting to “Stop deportations!” and groups like No Ms Muertes
(No More Deaths) forming to prevent migrants from dying in the desert, immigration is
clearly a hot topic. Some Americans are asking what happened to “Give me your poor,
your tired, your huddled masses” the famous lines by Emma Lazarus. Others continue
to describe immigrants as “job-stealers,” “disease-carriers,” “criminals,” and so on.
Assignment
For your final assignment, Harper’s has asked you to write an argumentative report on
the issue of immigration. Your editor (i.e. me) wants you to narrow down the topic by
focusing on a specific aspect of immigration, such as how the border is represented in
popular movies or music, or how NAFTA has affected Mexican farmers. As your editor, I
have provided you with a list of possible research questions at the bottom of this sheet.
However, you are free to develop your own.
Requirements
Harper’s is a popular magazine for a well-read audience. So you will want to appear
well-read as well (which after taking this course you are). To demonstrate you are not
only well-read but also creative and capable of making interesting connections, I want
you to draw upon at least two of the readings found on our syllabus. Besides that, you are
also required to make use of one book source, one journal article, and one website.

How should the U.S. control its borders? Which strategy is most effective?
Should undocumented workers be given access to health care?
What has been the experience of Asian immigrants in some period of U.S. history?
How has immigration to the U.S. changed as a result of the attacks on September 11,
2001?
What are the pros and cons to providing bilingual education for immigrant children?
What types of exploitation do undocumented immigrants suffer? What are the solutions
to this problem?

Do migrants help or hurt the U.S. economy? How? (Alternatively: should we care
about whether migrants help or hurt the economy? Is this primarily a human
rights issue, not an economic issue?)

What are the difficulties for immigrants adjusting to life in the U.S. and what is the
best way to maintain their cultural identity?
How are another country’s’ immigration issues similar to or different from those of the
US?
Make connections with Writing Like a White Guy and Death of Josseline. I am attaching these two articles.

Research the assigned generation regarding the selected dimensions/elements.
Respond to the following questions:
Explain how the assigned generation perceive or respond to the element in the workplace environment?
Provide rationale (and references as needed) to support your conclusion.
Identify one (1) recommendation for each element that could be used to improve the dialog and/or the receptiveness of the generation to the element.
As a group, create a presentation in MS PowerPoint that contains 1-2 slides per element in addition to the slides that reflect the groups responses to the questions above.

Submit a short paper using the APA style paper format and address the following from your research
project integrative review & your six-high level of evidence research articles:

What research design and methods have been used to address your research problem (PICO)?
Were these methods appropriate in your six high level of evidence research studies articles?
What data collection methods have you noted in the articles included in your integrated review of the
literature?
Evaluate the appropriateness of statistical analyses used in those articles. What gaps and inconsistencies in the literature have you noted?
You need to break the paper into three sections, introduction, body (discussion & literature review) and
the conclusion. Write it objectively instead of subjectivity — no personal pronouns or experiences.
I attached an excellent example written by a former student, so you view the components of Module six
short paper. Note her reference page include the six high level research studies and is formatted correctly with journals’ DOIs.

Jan Geisler is the HIM director at Hillside Medical Center. The administration at Hillside has just approved the budget, which includes a new electronic health record. They assign Jan as the project manager and give her the task of reviewing and selecting the company (vendor) with the EHR that best suits the hospitals needs. Jan immediately thinks of her college roommate Ana. Ana also majored in HIM and now works for a large EHR vendor in California. Jan sends a quick email to Ana to catch up and asks about her companys EHR system. Ana responds immediately with updated pictures of her family and some general information about the EHR her company sells. Ana offers for her company to fly Jan to California so she can see the system and have a live demonstration. As an added bonus, Ana cannot wait to see her friend, take her to dinner, and catch up. Jan goes to California and enjoys her time with Ana, but she is a little disappointed with the EHR system. She just doesnt think it will meet the needs of her hospital. Jan has a meeting with the chief information officer today and is expected to present her recommendations. She feels obligated to recommend Anas company but she also has major concerns about their product.
