Write a paper about how parents can influence a child’s self-development. I want to discuss how words, images and things children hear and see from their adults can affect their self-esteem.
Write a paper about how parents can influence a child’s self-development. I want to discuss how words, images and things children hear and see from their adults can affect their self-esteem.
What expectations might a child have for a father, and what are the stereotypes about what a “man” is supposed to be and do?
Directions:
Experiences with family are not always positive ones, and sometimes we only understand the role that a father has played in our lives once we have grown up or become more mature. Peter Meinke’s poem, “Advice to My Son,” shows us the influence that a father can have on a child when he tries to pass on his experience and knowledge about the world to his son. In this poem, we hear the voice of a father who is establishing for readers a sense of the role that we might expect a father to play in a son’s life.
How does the speaker in Meinke’s poem show us what a father should be in terms of being a role model? What expectations might a child have for a father, and what are the stereotypes about what a “man” is supposed to be and do? What message does he convey to his son in this poem?
Once we have a sense of those expectations, let’s look at the other three poems in this unit: Roethke’s “My Papa’s Waltz,” Hayden’s “Those Winter Sundays,” and Lee’s “Eating Alone.” Each of these poems comes to us from the perspective of a child, so choose one poem and answer the following questions about that poem.
From what point of view is the poem written? Is the author writing in the present, or is he reflecting on a past relationship? What clues in the poem help you to understand that point of view? How would you characterize the relationship between the father and child? Describe the kind of relationship it seems to be.
Next, look for important images and symbols in the poem: what are they? If you need a starting point, consider the fact that food, labor, and gardening are common themes in most of these poems. Why would those things be associated with fathers? Do these images or symbols have similar or different effects in the poems? Compare one image or symbol that is used in two poems and explain how it is used similarly or differently by the two poets. Consider the emotional effect that the symbol or image has on the reader and the relevance it has in each poem; is it humorous, sad, frightening, or confused? What does the imagery and symbolism show you about the way the child sees/views/feels about his father?
Then, consider the way that one of these authors might use sound or diction to great effect. Where do you find alliteration in the poem? Assonance? Consonance? Are there any particular words that stand out to you due to their being unusually placed or out of sync with the other types of words that are being used? For instance, does the writer shift from simple language to more complex, or vice versa? Are there rhetorical questions being asked? Explain why the author might use sound or diction in these ways.
Finally, what differences do you see between the father figures presented in these poems versus the mothers in Part 1? How does the tone of these poems differ from the tone of the poems about mothers? What might that show us about the difference in a father/child relationship versus a mother/child relationship?
Consider the theme or message that the authors are trying to communicate in these poems. What do they each show us about fathers?
What value or new information the study might add to the existing literature on the topic investigated in the study.
Please follow these instructions to complete this assignment:
Read the two scientific papers posted below and write a 300-500-word summary of each of the two papers, with APA in-text citations and references. This means that you need to produce two separate summaries, each one between 300 and 500 words, but please put them both in one MS Word file. Here are the two papers that you will need to summarize:
Paper 1: Communication limitations in patients with progressive apraxia of speech and aphasia
Paper 2: Anxiety and its association with perceived stress and insomnia among nurses fighting against COVID-19 in Wuhan: a cross-sectional survey
=> Note on Paper 2: once you have clicked on the link above to open Paper 2, you will need to scroll down below its abstract to see the whole paper.
Please include the following items for each of the two summaries:
1) Type the title of the paper that you will be summarizing at the top of each summary
2) Type a summary of the paper (300-500 words per summary) that addresses the following points:
a) What question the authors aimed to investigate at the outset of their study described in the paper.
b) What value or new information the study might add to the existing literature on the topic investigated in the study.
c) What methods the authors of the paper used to conduct their study.
d) What the authors results and conclusions were.
e) What were the limitations of the study described in the paper.
3) At the very end of your assignment meaning below the two summaries please add a separate “References” page where you will create a list of two references for the two papers in alphabetical order using APA style. (If you wish to use any other sources in your summaries, you will also need to add references and in-text citations for those as well. See more information below, in a paragraph that begins with In each summary). One tip for finding the correct publication information you will need for each reference: if any of it is missing in a PDF copy of the paper posted here, google the title of the paper and find the missing information online.
The summaries must be written solely by summarizing and/or paraphrasing the information from the papers. No quotations are allowed. In addition, you must make sure that you convey an understanding of the papers in your summaries, which means that you first need to understand them as much as possible. I encourage you to use some of the techniques from my related lecture to help with this task.
In each summary, you must use an in-text APA citation in the very first sentence that refers to the specific paper that you will be summarizing. If you are not going to cite any other sources in the same summary, then you dont need to repeat the in-text citation for the main paper throughout the same summary, because it will be clear to the reader that the whole summary refers to that one paper. However, if you are going to cite other sources in your summaries, then you need to cite all of these sources in the text, and repeat the original in-text citation for the main paper each time you refer to it again after mentioning another source.
The same rule applies to the reference(s) at the end of each summary: if you are only going to refer to the main paper throughout a summary, then all you need to post at the end is a reference to that paper. If you are going to use other sources in addition to that, you will need to include references to them too.
As a reminder, here is an APA citation guide from the most recent discussion: How to format APA in-text citations and references.pdf
As for formatting requirements, please double-space the whole assignment. No title page is required for this assignment because it is not a formal research paper. The point here is to help you master the reading and citation skills that you will need for more advanced assignments in this course.
Upload and submit your assignment here in Blackboard in a Microsoft Word document. Please follow these steps to submit your assignment: save your Microsoft Word document on a computer, log in to Blackboard and click on this assignment. Complete the questions for the Applications for Chapter 10 – Changing a Promotion System
The name of the book is Staffin Organizations
Chapter 10, Page 544-545, Questions 1, 2, and 3.
Your responses to each question should be very thorough, complete, and relatively comprehensive that should be reflective of college-level formal writing.
Provide a title page.
Use a “Question and Answer” format – i.e., type out the question in full and then answer it thoroughly. This will make it very clear as to which question you are answering, rather than one combined or blended essay answer for all questions.
Double-space your responses. You should be aiming for at least one page or more for each question and response.
You will need to cite the textbook as an authoritative resource in answering these questions, so include parenthetical citations, where appropriate, and a References list at the end of your paper.

Changing a Promotion System
Bioglass, Inc. specializes in sales of a wide array of glass products. One area of
the company, the commercial sales division (CSD), specializes in selling high-
tech mirrors and microscope and photographic lenses. Sales associates in CSD are
responsible for selling the glass products to corporate clients. CSD has four levels
of sales associates, ranging in pay from $28,000 to $76,000 per year. There are alsofour levels of managerial positions; those positions range in pay from $76,000 to
$110,000 per year.
Tom Caldwell has been a very effective sales associate. He has consistently
demonstrated good sales techniques in his 17 years with Bioglass and has a large
and loyal client base. Over the years, Tom has risen from the lowest level of sales
associate to the highest. He has proved himself successful at each stage. An entry-
level management position in CSD opened up last year, and Tom was a natural
candidate. Although several other candidates were considered, Tom was the clear
choice for the position.
However, once in the position, Tom had a great deal of difficulty being a man-
ager. He was not accustomed to delegating and rarely provided feedback or guid-
ance to the people he supervised. Although he set goals for himself, he never set
performance goals for his workers. Morale in Toms group was low, and group
performance suffered. The company felt that demoting Tom back to sales would
be disastrous for him and present the wrong image to other employees; firing such
a loyal employee was considered unacceptable. Therefore, Bioglass decided to
keep Tom where he was but not consider him for future promotions. It was also
considering enrolling Tom in some expensive managerial development programs
to enhance his management skills.
Meanwhile, Toms replacement, although successful at the lower three levels
of sales associate positions, was struggling with the large corporate contracts that
the highest-level sales associates must service. Two of Toms biggest clients had
recently left Bioglass for a competitor. CSD was confused about how such a disas-
trous situation had developed when they seemed to make all the right decisions.
Based on this application and your reading of this chapter, answer the following
questions:
1. What is the likely cause of CSDs problems?
2. How might CSD, and Bioglass more generally, make better promotion deci-
sions in the future? Be specific.
3. In general, what role should performance appraisals play in internal selection
decisions? Are there some cases in which they are more relevant than others?
Explain.
Write about eviction as a reflexive (or circular) process.
Day 1 response: After you have read todays slideshow and sections one and two of Evicted and an interview with Matthew Desmond:
Write about eviction as a reflexive (or circular) process. Desmond shows us that housing crises cause poverty AND poverty causes housing crises. Include observations from the links on homelessness and evictions in the pandemic. Does the pandemic case help you elaborate on circular causality? Illustrate your points with examples from the book. Be sure to include a puzzle (or question) and your provisional response. And dont forget to use a creative, thought provoking title.
