Legal and Ethical issues

Before you begin your Assignment, watch a brief video introduction to Tamika Johnson and one of her clients, and then use the Internet and the Library to research the legal and ethical issues presented by this situation.
In a 35-page paper, analyze the implications of this case and respond to the following questions:
Introduce the specifics of the case and discuss the next steps Tamika should take in the case. Explain the reasoning for your choices.
Identify the various ethical dilemmas presented in this scenario.
Identify the specific NOHS Standards that would apply in this situation and explain how each applies to the case.
Explore any legal issues that might be raised by this situation regarding any state or federal laws. How might this information guide Tamikas actions?
Describe and discuss the mandatory reporting laws in your state. If Tamika lived in your state, would she be required to take any particular action?
If you were Tamikas supervisor, what direction might you provide for her? How might her actions impact you?
Finally, discuss strategies to minimize the likelihood of these legal and ethical issues arising in your practice. Be sure to provide information from research that clearly expands on the material available from the text or other course materials.

Research Proposal for Sport and Fitness Management

HSTM 4445 Research Project

Purpose:

The purpose of
this assignment is to have you put together a research proposal for Sport and
Fitness Management-related topic, bringing in much of what you have learned
through the class in regards to research design and implementation.

Instructions:

You are to follow
the outline below for putting together a research proposal. This must be typed
into a Word document with 12-point, Times New Roman font and double-spaced
throughout. You must follow correct APA 6th edition formatting and
citation; a failure to do so will severely impact your grade.

Outline/Steps:

1.
Preliminary
Literature Review.
a.
You
need to determine if the topic you have in mind is researchable. Doing a
preliminary literature search will save you time in the long run. Based on your
research interest, type up the following:

i.
Use
the Troy Libraries databases to search for article content for your research
topic of interest; you will need to have at least 8 peer-reviewed sources
(i.e., journal articles) for your project, so make sure there is enough
published research to complete your project.

ii.
State
your study objective. Why is your study necessary and important?

iii.
State
your potential research hypotheses.

iv.
Identify
the variables (in particular, independent and dependent variables) that you
will measure to complete the study.

v.
List
a potential group (sample or population) of participants for the study.

vi.
List
at least 3 keywords or short phrases that could be used in searching for
literature that relates to your topic.

2.
Identify
the Problem or Question.
a. Assuming that you
have done a preliminary search, have sufficient literature, and have identified
the research gap, identify the problem or question your research proposal aims
to answer/investigate.

3.
Define
the Problem or Question.
a. Describe the
problem with specificity. Why is this important? What value to either
academicians or practitioners will this study have?

4.
Explore
for Answers.
a.
Ensure
that your proposed research problem/question has not been addressed by other
scholars already. If it has been investigated, discuss why more research is
needed.

5.
Literature
review
a. Using the keywords
identified in Step 1 as well as your preliminary literature results, use the
Troy Libraries databases to conduct an extensive literature review on your
topic of interest. This will take a lot of time. Once you have found articles
on point, look to the articles cited in them; this will lead you to more
articles. You must identify at least 8
peer-reviewed articles on your topic of interest. Newspaper and
magazine articles do not count to this total.

i.
YOU CANNOT USE
GOOGLE TO DO YOUR RESEARCH, SO DO NOT BOTHER! YOU MUST USE THE TROY LIBRARIES!

ii.
Aside
from your peer-reviewed sources, you can (and should) use additional sources,
such as newspaper articles and magazine articles.

iii.
Steer
clear from websites as sources (i.e. Bleacher Report); they hold little to no
academic value.

iv.
You
do not necessarily need to stick to the journals listed in the article
assignments, but they would be a good start.

v.
It
is in your best interest to line up your Article Reviews with this research
project, since you need to read through these articles anyways for your
project.

6.
Define
Objectives.
a.
State
your research study hypothesis or hypotheses.

i.
These
should tie directly back to your Research Question/Problem.
b.
Clearly
identify the variables of your study:

i.
Independent
variable(s)

ii.
Dependent
variable(s)

iii.
Extraneous
variable(s)

7.
Determine
Research Design.
a.
You
will need to think carefully about this. Review the numerous research
methods/designs we have examined this term in this course. Your Research
Question/Problem should dictate the method(s) you choose. Make sure to
identify, in detail, the design you plan on using (e.g., focus group,
structured interviews, mail survey, observation, etc.). You should consider
using a number of these in conjunction for your study. This needs to be
detailed.
b.
If
you plan on using a survey instrument, you need to identify how the survey will
be developed. If using an already developed survey, make sure to identify it.
c.
You
need to address the issues of internal and external validity outlined in
Chapter 10. Which of these would apply to your study? How do you plan on
addressing them?

8.
Determine
Data Collection Procedures.
a.
Discuss
in detail your plans for collecting data for your research project. Make sure
to address the following:

i.
Identify
the population of interest.

ii.
Identify
your sampling techniques.

iii.
Identify
the protocol for collecting data (e.g., mail survey, observation, interviews,
etc.).

9.
Determine
Data Analysis Procedures.
a.
Identify
the data analysis procedures(i.e., statistical analysis) you plan on using in
your research project (e.g., t-test, ANOVA, etc.).

10.
Timeline
a.
Include
a brief timeline for the research project.

11.
References
a. You must include a
reference list for sources used in this project. It must conform to APA 6th
edition formatting. If you are not familiar with this formatting, you need to
either purchase an APA manual (Amazon is a good, cheap place), check out a
manual from a library, or use a variety of online resources dedicated to APA
formatting:

i.
http://www.apastyle.org/ (look at the
Tutorials here)

ii.

iii.
http://www.vanguard.edu/faculty/ddegelman/index.aspx?doc_id=796

iv.
http://www.liu.edu/CWIS/CWP/library/workshop/citapa.htm
b. The formatting
must be throughout the paper, including References. You will lose points for failing to use proper APA formatting.

Describe how lighting is used to enhance or detract from the production.

For this media analysis, you will analyze how one part affects the whole media production.
Note that you should select only a single piece of media; you should not be discussing more

production.
Special Effects: Explain what special effects are used and how they affect the viewing
experience.
Comparison to a Literary Work: (Note: This option may only be chosen if the film you
chose is also in print form.) How are the book and film similar? How are they
different? Which is better, and why?
Your purpose in this assignment is to explain how or why something works; therefore, you
should not include a full summary of the media production. Instead, you can provide context
where needed so the reader understands what is happening. The body of the essay must

components.
focus on your analysis. You can use the ideas contained in the Media Analysis lesson
presentation and the Writers Handbook link to help you.
As with all college writing, your essay should have a strong thesis statement in addition to an
introduction, body, and conclusion.
Other than your chosen film, television show, and/or book, you are required to cite at least
one other credible2
source for this essay. This resource from the course will help you
understand more about evaluating sources. Moreover, if you use specific information from
the media production and/or print source, such as a quotations, you should include your
chosen media source on your Works Cited page, too. Use proper parenthetical citations or
signal phrases, and be sure to include MLA documentation and a Works Cited page for this
assignment (this resource from the course will help).
Review the rubric to see how your work will be assessed on this assignment.
Thesis hints: You might use these guidelines in crafting your thesis:
If you are analyzing elements in a production:
In (add your one chosen production), (add character 1), (add character 2), and (add character 3) were
used to (add how they enhanced the production or explained the productions message).
OR
If you are comparing/contrasting a book and film:
(Add book) contained (add one aspect that made the book better than the film), but (add film) used
(add one aspect that made the film better than the book) and (add a second aspect that made the
film better than the book) to better capture the readers imagination.
Here are more specific thesis guidelines:
If you are analyzing elements in a production:
In the movie The Lorax, the characters Lorax, Once-ler, and Alocius O’Hare were used to show how
environmentalists are fighting against profit-driven industries that are harming the environment and
depleting natural resources.

2 Please note: Basic dictionary sources, user-edited websites (e.g., Wikipedia, eHow, etc.), and sites that house
databases of quotations are not considered credible sources. You will lose points in the Research category of the
rubric if your sources arent credible.
OR
If you are comparing/contrasting a book and film:
Even though the characters were portrayed mostly the same across the book and the movie in
Stephanie Meyers Twilight, the setting in the movie was much more detailed, which made the movie
a much better overall experience compared to the book.

You must have one to write a paper.

In short, an illustration essay will use clear, interesting examples to show, explain, and support a thesis statement (remember, your thesis is your main argument, or the main point youre trying to make). One key to an effective illustration essay is to use enough details and specific examples to make your point effectively. In other words, descriptive writing is key.

You have several options for this assignment, so you will need to choose one:
Illustrate the ideal work environment. If everything was perfect at work, what would
it be like? Describe everything in this environmentperhaps from the dispositions of
your coworkers and supervisors to what clothes you wear to work.
Illustrate what it means to be a true friend. What does being a true friend mean
to you? What true friends have you had, and how do their actions coincide with
being your definition of a true friend?
Illustrate how your favorite team or player received their current standing or
ranking. How did the team or player do in the most recent season? What qualities did
this team or player demonstrate to earn this ranking?
Look at your favorite poem or short story, and use illustration to explain what
makes it your favorite. Do you enjoy the authors language? Do you enjoy the
storyline? What else do you enjoy that makes it your favorite?
Illustrate the purpose of props on the set of your favorite media production. What
props are there? Why are they important?
Illustrate how to create your favorite dish. What steps are required to create this
dish? Be sure that you take your audience through this process step by step!
Illustrate how to play your favorite game. What steps and/or actions are necessary
to play this game? Take your readers through the motions, step by step.
The questions above are designed to help you begin brainstorming ideas; however, you are
free to develop your own brainstorming questions and use them to develop your essay.
Since the purpose of this essay is to illustrate, you should have enough specific details and
examples for your essay to be considered an illustration essay.
Many illustrations may come from your personal experiences. However, even personal
experiences should be supported by research in college essays. Thus, you must cite at least
one credible1
source to earn maximum credit for this essay. This resource from the course
