The Method of Psychology

Thinking about Chapter 2 which focuses on research, if you had the opportunity to design your own research, what would you study? Would it be a quantitative or qualitative study? Who would benefit from your study? Why would someone be interested in your study? Has your study been done before, why would your study be better. Remember: Support your viewpoint with information presented in the course material and/or other resources. Also, give specific examples (real-life observations and experiences) to support your views.

Christian Callings in a Post-Christian World, 1800 – Present”

When I say one source requires which mean the reading that I have uploaded so please read before answer and no outside. Only use the reading to answer the question below

Read the introduction for “Christian Callings in a Post-Christian World, 1800 – Present” (Placher, pp. 327-332).

In his introduction, Placher discusses how some are hesitant to define “job” as “vocation/calling.” After reading the introduction and the other readings for this week, where do you stand? Do you think that in today’s world that a person’s job equals their vocation/calling? If so, why? If you don’t think that a person’s job necessarily equals their vocation/calling, tell us why you think that. If you are somewhere in the middle on it, explain why you are in the middle on the subject.

Be sure to cite some examples from the readings to back up your reasoning for your answer.

Discuss the history of vampire literature, and how it is related to a belief in vampires as part of folklore.

Hi, please no plagiarism, at least three sources. Thank you!! Write a research-based essay on one
of the following topics:

1.
Summarize disagreements about
the authorship of Frankenstein, and
state an opinion. (One important source is the controversial study of 2007, The Man Who Wrote Frankenstein by John Lauritsen. Responses to Lauritsens
argument are also informative.)

2.
Discuss the history of vampire
literature, and how it is related to a belief in vampires as part of folklore.
Some questions to consider: If vampires were traditionally assumed to be
nocturnal, and vulnerable to being destroyed by sunlight, how have these
characteristics been changed in relatively recent vampire fiction? Why does
Count Dracula has to travel with a small amount of earth from his native
Transylvania, yet Anne Rices vampires can travel the world and survive
anywhere? What characteristics do all vampires, per se, have to have? Do
fictional vampires seem to be losing their ability to terrify mortals?

For this project, you
could choose instead to compare and contrast two or more vampire novels. For
example, you could compare the depiction of slavery in Interview with the Vampire with that in one or more vampire novels
by women writers of African descent (e.g. Octavia Butler, Jewelle Gomez, Fiona
Zedde).

3.
Explain metaphysics, as
practiced professionally by Ned Mathey in Death
by Silver. How are his methods
(as taught to him in Oxford) derived from medieval belief systems?

4.
Discuss the personality and the appearance of Louis C. de Ferre in An
Ungodly Child in terms of historical conceptions of Lucifer/Satan/the
Devil.

Possible sources:

James I and VI, first published in the 1590s, and analyzed by Donald Tyson in
2011,

Self, Identity, and Conciousness

Instructions
Purpose
In this assignment, you will be asked to show that you can summarize and then compare two different philosophers (Descartes and Locke) ideas on the self. The issue of how we understand what the self is, and how it relates to our memory or our physical body and brain, is a recurring issue in philosophy.
This assignment supports the following unit objectives:
Compare and contrast a soul-based theory of the self (as illustrated by Descartes) with a psychological-based theory of the self (like that of Locke).
Articulate how memory relates to our definition of the self.
Articulate the identity theory of Locke.
Explain the connection between personhood and consciousness as articulated by Locke.
Compare Descartes and Lockes views on personhood and guilt.
Task
Recap each philosophers main view about consciousness/the self/personal identity.
Explain at least one difference between the two philosophers views and state which view you prefer.
Then, offer an argument (i.e., evidence) against the view that you reject.
Use only the two sources provided below.
How to do this
Start with making a careful summary of two of the philosophers we read in Unit 2.
What were their main concepts and definitions, what were their distinctions?
How did they imagine that the self was different from the brain or different from the mind?
Restate their theory and include “direct quotes”, specific references from their work.
Explain carefully how these views compare and contrast. Be sure to identify and explain at least one difference between the philosophers’ views.
How do they define a key concept or make a major distinction differently?
State which view you prefer. (Hint: Thesis! This piece is where you state what view you consider to be better and why. In philosophy, it is OK to write, “I argue that…” in fact, I strongly encourage you to do so when you are writing your thesis/argument in your introduction paragraph. Check the attached video for more helpful hints).
Offer an argument against the view that you reject.
Formatting
The body of the essay must be 5-6 pages (1250-1500 words) in length.
1-inch margins
12-point, Times New Roman font
Include a Title page
Include a Works Cited page – cite all quotations/paraphrases used by naming the author of the work, the tile and the chapter/section that you are citing from.
Properly use MLA in-text citations for paraphrasing and direct quoting (Purdue OWL MLA Formatting and Style Guide). Here is an example essay with MLA citations.
