Structure of the Essay
At this stage of your learning process, it is a good idea to adopt a formal structure in your essay. For this assignment, make sure you articulate your discussion in the following way: a short Introduction, followed by two or three Sections, a Conclusion, and a proper Bibliography.
Introduction
After a brief introduction in which I expect you to introduce the relevant theme, you will need to state your argument (e.g., ‘given the problem or issue implicit in the title, I contend that …’), and briefly offer the reader with some guidance on what you will be doing in the essay (e.g., ‘in order to demonstrate my argument, I will first look at… Then I will … Finally, I conclude that…).
Argumentation (two or three sections)
After the Introduction, the essay sections will allow you to develop your argument. A critical stance is here essential for enhancing the quality of your essay. Do your best to be analytical and not just descriptive. You might want to articulate your answer (that is, your main argument) through a number of claims (or sub-arguments). I recommend posing one claim for each section. For instance, if your title is about the role of ethnicity in the politics of the region and your argument is that ethnicity hinders national loyalty, you will need to divide your argument in sub-arguments which will all contribute to defend and develop your hypothesis (e.g, Section 1 will first look at how ethnicity is constructed and the type of loyalty it enables…); Section 2 will further develop your argument by looking at national loyalty and showing how it differs from ethnic belonging).
Remember: a good essay is one that engages critically and analytically with the essay title. In this direction, make sure you are able to identify pros and cons for each claim in your sections. Do not just discuss your claims, but account for the cons: imagine the objections that some authors (and readers!) might have in relation to specific claims, and try to list and account for those possible objections in your discussion (this is a good way to highlight tensions among the authors and engage critically with the literature).

You will finally reprise your main points and show the force of your argument. If you have suggestions or ideas for future works which could follow from your essay, this is a good place where to put them.

Bibliography
This is where you list all the academic articles, books, websites you have used in your essay. Whether you have used in-text referencing or endnotes, your quotes and referenced material will all need to be listed here. Do not include items that you have not expressly used and referenced in your essay.
REFERENCING
A wide range of sources must be used (at least 10 references), and referencing must be complete and accurate. In answering your question, make sure you engage with the required reading connected to title and the related weekly topic. All items in the relevant required reading list must be discussed, referenced and included in your bibliography at the end of the essay. Besides the required reading for your chosen topic, suggested reading and further reading should also be included.

Hi Class,
For the discussion today I listened to the NPR Planet Money podcast. I decided to listen to the episode on what’s causing inflation. I did not realize that the Fed had caused the bond markets to crash in 2013 by only saying one sentence. They came out and said they were going to slow down on purchasing bonds, but did not give a time frame. Which led to a large sell off in the bond market causing the bond market to crash.
I also learned that the Fed would usually raise interest rates when the unemployment rate dropped to a certain level in order to try and stop an “inflation spiral”. This is when unemployment keeps dropping and wages keep increasing. These two ideas relate directly back to principles 9 and 10 in our lesson this week. The government created an influx of money when they gave the stimulus checks during the COVID lockdowns. This is an example of the government producing too much money. While this was good for the average person, including myself, it also increased the inflation rate.
I have been effected by these in both good and bad ways. In the 2008 recession I was laid off from my job. This caused me to lose my job and my home at the time. Luckily I landed on my feet and was able to recover from that. This time around I have seen the portion of my retirement investments drop because of some of the market downturns since all the talk of inflation because of the stimulus packages. I have also benefited from the hot labor market and advanced my career faster than I thought I would by now because of these things.

Whether or not you notice it, economics plays a significant role in our day-to-day lives. From what we buy to how we budget, economics is a major factor in a lot of our regular activities. Still, there exists a collection of economic principles that dictate how the economy functions and what rules should be set.There are 10 basic economic principles that make up economic theory and act as a guide for economists. Aside from standard economic concepts like supply and demand, scarcity, cost and benefits, and incentives, there are an additional 10 principles to follow in the field. AS I listened to the podcast there was one principle that stood out to me the most. That principle would be a country’s standard of living depending on the country’s production. Matthieu, stern podcaster of Economic Principles, says “This growth can be traced back to the goods and services produced in each country. In places where workers are able to produce more goods, the standard of living is higher, and vice versa. To increase the living standard, there need to be public policies that affect it without negatively impacting productivity by way of increasing education and providing better access to tools and technology”. As we know, there are different standards of living in different countries, and this is directly correlated to the country’s productivity.For example, even in high-income countries, the Western world has made leaps and bounds in what we consider to be the standard of living.
