In this assignment you will prepare and deliver testimony on a bill. Please read the bill provided.
Assume that the Health and Human Services Finance and Policy Committee is holding a hearing on the bill. You are a Minnesota resident who is testifying at this hearing. For purposes of this assignment, choose what type of resident you are. For example, you could be a concerned relative, a health care provider, or a patient – you are not limited to this list.
You have a lot to say about this issue and you were expecting to have about 15 minutes to testify. But, the committee has gotten behind schedule and tells you that you have no more than 3 minutes to testify. Luckily, you came prepared with a 3 minute version of your testimony just in case this happened.
Write your 3 minute testimony. Focus on the key information you want the legislators to know! Think about how you are conveying the information.
Grading rubric:
101-150 points
Provides effective testimony, demonstrating careful consideration of the issue. Choses and clearly identifies a perspective (type of resident testifying) and provides testimony consistent with that perspective.
51-100 points
Provides satisfactory testimony, perhaps lacking clear points and unlikely to persuade legislators.
0-50 points
Provides testimony that is contradictory, difficult to understand, or lacking a clear perspective. Disregards the 3 minute limit.

This is a music class (intro), so some expertise/knowledge on general terms in music would help. The task is to answer one of the questions, but I would like to have 2 answers. I would prefer to answer question number 2 (Hurt) and anything else. (I would not mind 2 versions of Question #2, but I would make it different enough to avoid plagiarism). (300-500 word per question)
The grading will be based on the analysis of the songs themselves, but including musical terms would be helpful. It is also important that there’s somewhat a connection to this week’s lecture, which talked about word painting. I have included the instruction from the professor, this week’s lecture slides (including what this assignment should be), and the materials needed.
However, this is still an intro to music class (university), the wording shouldn’t be too senior/professional.
In their 2005 book, “The Bottomless Well,” authors Huber and Mills state that the world will never run out of oil. Why do you think they made such a statement? What global or historical evidence or experiences do you think may have led them to this thesis? Do you agree or disagree with their assertion, and why?

Your task is to develop an arguable assertion regarding the novel while applying and integrating critical thinking concepts
REQUIREMENTS: If any of these requirements are not met, the paper cannot earn above a 65% (D).
7 – 8 pages
Evidence from both the novel and Beyond Feelings
Two outside articles from scholarly sources (Wikipedia, Spark Notes, and other non-college-level and non-academic resources do NOT count; use the scholarly journals and periodicals from RCC databases or Google Scholar)
Correct MLA formatting, quoting, citing, and Works Cited (I have continued to point out these errors and continue to explain how to correct them. I have also given you an informative and helpful PowerPoint. There are also dozens of websites to help you. Therefore, there is NO REASON I should see these types of errors on your final paper.)
IDEAS for PAPER TOPICS
Focus on a symbol in the novel and how it is used to explore a theme. You could focus on the pear tree and how it is used to explore love, sexuality, and marriage. Or you could choose the mule and analyze how it is used to explore the African-American woman’s place/role/limitations in society. Other options include Janie’s clothing and hair and the ‘Glades.
Discuss the changing and blurring of the narrative voice and what point is being made through the changes in narrative point of view. Keep in mind issues of identity, oppression, sexism, racism, and self-actualization. This topic is a tough one, but also interesting, so if you choose this, consider discussing it with me.
There are many episode in the novel (beginning with the scene in the store during which Joe slaps her) in which Janie discusses herself as two different selves: her inside self and her outside self. What does the split represent? What purpose does this split serve? Do her two selves ever merge back into one? How is this connected to her attempt to reach self-actualization? Look in Chapters 6, 7, and 9 of the novel to start. There is further evidence in other chapters that can be used, but start here.
Contrast two characters to make an argument about egocentrism, ethnocentrism, authority, oppression, freedom, or identity. But please remember: in a contrast essay it is NOT enough to say “Character A is egocentric and Character B isn’t.” That is NOT an argument. Remember that you need to ask yourself what you have learned through looking at those differences, what new insight you have gained, or what lesson you have learned.
Critical thinking concepts that might fit into your arguments:
Influences on our identity and perspectives, Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, the essence of individuality (Chapter 1)
The difference between feeling and thinking, the characteristics of critical and noncritical thinkers, basic activities of critical thinking (Chapter 2)
The kinds of thinking errors, the people more prone to commit those errors (Chapter 5)
The types of evidence and evaluating evidence, how bias affects our evaluation of evidence (Chapter 6)
Mine-is-better thinking, egocentrism, ethnocentrism (Chapter 8)
All of the logical fallacies (Chapters 9 -12)
Because I have now pointed out (and corrected for you) the following errors in your other essays, I will have little tolerance if I see them in this last essay. Review my PowerPoint on common errors and make sure to ask me if you have any questions. And one last piece of advice: have your paper ready to turn in a at least a few hours early so you will have that time to do one last, slow, careful, focused reading to find and correct these errors. Edit and proofread with attention.

CyberSecurity Manager’s Policy Deskbook
Manager’s Deskbook
Company Background & Operating Environment
Red Clay Renovations is an internationally recognized,
awarding winning firm that specializes in the renovation and rehabilitation of
residential buildings and dwellings. The company specializes in updating homes
using “smart home” and “Internet of Things” technologies while maintaining
period correct architectural characteristics. Please refer to the company
profile posted in the online classroom for additional background information
and information about the company’s operating environment.
Policy Issue & Plan of Action
The Manager’s
Deskbook contains issue specific policies and implementation procedures
which are required to mitigate risks to the company and to otherwise ensure
good governance of the company’s operations. The Chief Information Security
Officer (CISO) and key CISO staff members held a kick-off meeting last week to identify
issue specific policies which should be added to the company’s policy system in
the IT Governance category. The
policies will be disseminated throughout the company by incorporating them into
the Manager’s Deskbook. The required issue specific policies are:
1. Data
Breach Response Policy
2. Preventing
/ Controlling Shadow IT Policy
3. Management
and Use of Corporate Social Media Accounts Policy
For the purposes of this
assignment, you will create a policy recommendations briefing package (containing
an Executive Summary and draft policies) and submit that to your instructor for
grading.
Note: In a “real world” environment, the policy recommendations briefing
package would be submitted to the IT Governance board for discussion and
vetting. After revisions and voting, a package containing the accepted policies
would be sent to all department heads and executives for comment and additional
vetting. These comments would be combined and integrated into the policies and
sent out for review again. It usually takes several rounds of review and
comments before the policies can be sent to the Chief of Staff’s office for
forwarding to the Corporate Governance Board. During the review & comments
period, the policies will also be subjected to a thorough legal review by the
company’s attorneys. Upon final approval by the Corporate Governance Board, the
policies will be adopted and placed into the Manager’s Deskbook. This entire
process can take 9 to 12 months, if not longer.
Your Task Assignment
As a staff member supporting the CISO, you have been
asked to research and then draft an issue
specific policy for each of the identified issues (three separate policies).
These policies are to be written for MANAGERS and must identify the issue, explain
what actions must be taken to address the issue (the company’s “policy”), state
the required actions to implement the policy, and name the responsible /
coordinating parties (by level, e.g. department heads, or by title on the
organization chart).
After completing your
research and reviewing sample policies from other organizations, you will then
prepare an “approval draft” for each issue specific policy.
·
The purpose of each issue specific policy is to address a specific IT governance issue
that requires cooperation and collaboration between multiple departments within
an organization.
·
Each issue
specific policy should be no more than two typed pages in length (single
space paragraphs with a blank line between).
·
You will need to be concise in your writing and
only include the most important elements for each policy.
·
You may refer to an associated “procedure” if
necessary, e.g. a Procedure for
Requesting Issuance of a Third Level Domain Name (under the company’s
Second Level Domain name) or a Procedure
for Requesting Authorization to Establish a Social Media Account.
Your “approval drafts” will
be combined with a one page Executive Summary (explaining why these issue specific policies are being
brought before the IT Governance Board).
Research:
1.
Review the table of contents and relevant
chapters in the Certified Information Privacy Professional textbook to find
information about legal and regulatory drivers.
2.
Review NIST’s definition of an “Issue Specific
Policy” and contents thereof in NIST SP 800-12 Section 5.3. This document
provides information about the content of an issue specific policy (as compared
to comprehensive system and enterprise security policies).
3.
Review the weekly readings and resource
documents posted in the classroom. Pay special attention to the resources which
contain “issues” and “best practices” information for:
·
Data Breach Response
·
Preventing / Controlling Shadow IT
·
Social Media
4.
Review NIST guidance for required / recommended
security controls (see NIST SP 800-12, NIST SP 800-53, and NIST SP 800-100).
Some suggested control families are:
·
Access Control (AC) control family (for Social
Media policy)
·
Incident Response (IR) control family (for Data
Breach policy)
·
System and Services Acquisition (SA) control
family (Domain Name, Shadow IT, Website Governance)
5.
Find and review additional authoritative /
credible sources on your own which provide information about IT security issues
(related to data breaches / responses, shadow IT, and/or social media use) which
require policy solutions.
Write:
1.
Prepare briefing package with approval drafts of
the three IT related policies for the Manager’s Deskbook. Your briefing package
must contain the following:
·
Executive Summary
·
“Approval Drafts” for
o Data
Breach Response Policy
o Preventing
/ Controlling Shadow IT Policy
o Management
and Use of Corporate Social Media Accounts Policy
As you write your policies, make sure that you address IT and
cybersecurity concepts using standard terminology.
2.
Use a professional format for your policy
documents and briefing package. Your
policy documents should be consistently formatted and easy to read.
3.
You must include
a cover page with the assignment title, your name, and the due date. Your
reference list must be on a separate page at the end of your file. These pages
do not count towards the assignment’s page count.
4.
Common phrases do not require citations. If
there is doubt as to whether or not information requires attribution, provide a
footnote with publication information or use APA format citations and
references.
5.
You are expected to write grammatically correct
English in every assignment that you submit for grading. Do not turn in any
work without (a) using spell check, (b) using grammar check, (c) verifying that
your punctuation is correct and (d) reviewing your work for correct word usage
and correctly structured sentences and paragraphs.
6.
Consult the
grading rubric for specific content and formatting requirements for this
assignment.
7.
Submit your Manager’s
Program Proposal
Part I. Define your topic of concern and conduct a relevant needs assessment.
Description: Define the topic you are addressing. How are you conceptualizing the issue? Consider the following questions– How many people does this impact nationally or locally? Why is this issue important? How does this social problem impact people?
Needs Assessment: Apply the four types of needs assessment as appropriate. Use professional sources to gather information when possible. If you are not able to capture enough information with current resources, state how you would collect needs assessment data.
Notes on this section: This section will require at least 4-6 references. Be sure that all references are professional and appropriate (peer review, government documents, etc). This section is setting the stage for your program so the background and needs assessment data should clearly state why this is important.
Part II. Rationale for the Proposed Program
Program Hypothesis. Provide a rationale for why the program you are proposing is needed and appropriate for your issue. Clearly state the program hypothesis.
Logic Model. Present a clearly articulated logic model for your program. The logic model should identify specific inputs and expected outcomes.
Part III. Program Description
Program Overview. Clearly describe the type of program you are proposing. The program overview should align with Sections I and II of the proposal. The program overview should also address the context or scope of the program.
Specific Activities. Describe the specific activities that will occur in your program. Who will implement the activities? Where will they happen? How many people will be served by your program?
Part IV. Evaluation Plan and Budget
Evaluation Plan. Describe how you propose to gather information related to your program and how that information will both inform improvements and also how information can demonstrate the effectiveness of the program (process and outcome).
Budget. Identify the costs associated with your program. Be sure to include space, technology, staffing, etc. Include a budget spreadsheet and a narrative portion that explains the costs.
