For the third essay, you are going to select an issue that you feel strongly about and explain why you feel strongly about the issue. This essay will, later on, be used in your larger research paper. The assignment will include an MLA outline (1 page), the essay itself (Max. 2 pages) and an MLA works cited (1 page). The assignment should not exceed four pages.

The Capstone Financial Ratios and Financial Statement
Analysis Project presents you with an integrative framework to further develop
and use skills for business analysis, business forecasting, and to a lesser
extent, equity valuation using quantitative and qualitative financial
information. By completing this capstone project, you will gain an
understanding of the conceptual mutuality between our continual reference in
this course of using accounting information to make business decisions, and how
to apply these concepts to make practical, real-world business decisions. To be
clear from the beginning; this assignment requires you to do independent
research, writing, financial ratio calculations, financial ratios analysis, and
to interpret your data and the qualitative and quantitative data and opinions
of others. It requires you deduce from your work a clear recommendation
statement on what you think should be done going forward based on your
research, calculations, and personal opinions. You will also be required to
read and study ahead. What that means is that this assignment requires you to
access, reasonably understand, and use information we may not have covered in
the class before you start and finish this assignment. Please refrain from emailing
me to report that you are running into concepts that we have not yet covered as
a class. We agree at the start that you are required to study ahead as much as
possible. Through-out the course I assign homework that introduce you to tools
used to analyze a firm’s financial performance to date, forecast its future

Furthermore, we introduced mini-cases and homework that exposed you to
examining the relation between a firm’s business strategy and accounting
numbers reported in financial statements. Through these learning activities you
have already been exposed to the same techniques and information sources used
by Wall Street professionals to discuss the impact of global and domestic
economic trends. We have already been using the financial ratios used in
industry to conduct business performance evaluations, to review the effect of
managerial talent on the future financial success of a business, and to learn
how to convert qualitative data into quantitative value estimates. The capstone
project presents you with a real-world, action-based learning experience. The
project provides an opportunity for you to demonstrate the process of
integrating various business strategy and large amounts of data in an applied
manner. You will engage in a real-time forecasting exercise where you forecast
a company’s future performance over a specific time. This project will require
you to research and find realtime information and data about the industry,
company, management plans, past annual financial statements, and other analyst
opinions. You will then analyze your findings in order to help decide whats
important for you to further examine and to apply therelevant financial ratios
and financial ratio analysis to the business analysis framework you wish to
construct your financial forecasts and recommendation. The two companies that
you will be required to research, apply financial ratio analysis, analyze
quantitative and qualitative findings, make an informed decision on which
company has a better short-term performance outlook, and write up your
methodology and recommendation are: Expedia and Airbnb Inc. By using the
companys most recent financial statements you will critically examine the reasons
for any key changes between the financial statements over 3-5 years. There are
many financial ratios and sets of financial results available in every case
that might be used to make forward predictions. It is important that you keep
in mind we are undertaking a final capstone comprehensive learning experience.
I do not expect that we have all the learning and skills needed to compete with
the pros or to even compete with the students that have already taken a
corporate finance course. Therefore, please temper the scope of the assignment
to your research abilities and prior skillsets. At all times you must remember
that your focus is to: Select and examine enough years of financial
statements for the two companies assigned. I suggest 3-5 years of financial
statements. Decide which financial ratios you feel are appropriate for you to
apply to the two companies in making and supporting your opinion and
assumptions. You must select and use select ratio from the following

Regarding this assignment, while I do not pretend to be versed in an abundance
of writing skills, I want to remind you that I am a teacher and a long-time
business professional. That means that in my role as an instructor I will
assess your writing and use of grammar skills applied in this assignment. I

Scenario

XYZ Corporation owns a landfill that was acquired in the purchase of a small waste management company 30 years ago. During routine testing of the soil surrounding the landfill a technician of the company discovered that the soil on the west side of the landfill showed evidence of heavy metals which may be carcinogenic (cause cancer) to humans and animals. If the source of the contamination is not located and contained, the chemicals might enter the public water supply by draining into the local reservoir. The cost of cleaning up the chemical contamination could be very large. The Vice President of the company in charge of the landfill has been given the test results. When he informed the CEO of the situation he was told to ignore the results and continue operating the landfill. The Vice President is trying to determine his course of action.

Pick one of the Theories of Ethics and answer the following questions:

For the City Project you will write a 300 word paragraph describing a city of your own making. Make it sound like something you would find inside of a brochure. Underneath that paragraph write a series of rules that govern your city. The one requirment is that you keep the rules within the rules that govern our world. I.E no unicorn rides for all the people in your city. This project is designed to force you to consider all of the small details involved in a subject.

Case Study: A 60-year-old Type I diabetic presents with discoloration of his right leg. The pathogen is clostridium perfringens.
Compare and contrast gas gangrene and wet gangrene.
Compare and contrast apoptosis and necrosis.
Identify the mechanism of cellular injury.
How did diabetes contribute to this condition?
1.) Gangrene is a type of tissue necrosis generally caused by infection, ischemia, or both (Buttolph & Sapra, 2021). Wet gangrene is the result of liquefaction necrosis, which occurs when caustic enzymes dissolve necrotic cells (Dlugash & Story, 2021). It can also be accompanied by infection. In this scenario, the byproduct of necrosis mixes with white blood cells and produces a liquid wound. Gas gangrene, on the other hand, is caused by bacteria that release toxins that destroy surrounding cells. It is characterized by the gas, a byproduct of the tissue lysis, that is trapped under the skin. This type of gangrene is caused by the clostridium pathogen and is the most damaging, spreads rapidly, and has the potential to be life-threatening (Dlugash & Story, 2021).
2.) Apoptosis is programmed cellular death (Dlugash & Story, 2021). It is not a pathological process. It is quite the opposite, in fact. It is a physiological process to rid the body of cells that are damaged in some way. The different apoptosis pathways can be triggered by things such as DNA damage, nutrient deprivation, hypoxia, etc. (Chen et al., 2018). In contrast, necrosis is generally considered to be a pathological process. This is unscheduled or accidental cell death in response to unintentional injuries or stressors. Necrosis is usually the result of hypoxia or bacterial invasion (2021).
3.) Clostridium perfringens is an anaerobic bacteria that spreads quickly, by the process of fermentation, in an oxygen-poor environment. Its virulence depends on the cytotoxins it produces, such as alpha and theta toxins (Buboltz & Murphy-Lavoie, 2021). Alpha toxin is a phospholipase (lecithinase) that breaks down cell membranes triggering platelet aggregation, thrombosis, and histamine release Theta toxins cause direct vascular injury and breakdown of leukocytes causing blunted host inflammatory response to the infection (2021). These processes cause widespread cellular destruction and waste gases to be released in the tissues.
4.) Gangrene is a condition that develops from impaired blow flow and infection. Diabetes is a condition that, over time, causes changes atherosclerotic-like changes in the vasculature that lead to diminished flow to the tissues, resulting in diffuse ischemia and necrosis (Dlugash & Story, 2021). Also, ischemia of the nerves causes diminished sensation, pre-disposing people to injuries that go undetected and untreated. When anaerobic bacteria, such as clostridium perfringens are introduced to tissues that are ischemic and have high glucose levels for them to feed on, they proliferate. Because diabetes further diminishes the immune response, the infection spreads unchecked.

Sociological Perspectives (Structural Functionalist, Social Conflict
Theory, and Symbolic Interactionist) as well as choosing one of the main
theorists (Emile Durkheim, Max Weber, Karl Marx, and Talcott Parsons).
